Welcome back to our countdown of the top Vancouver Canucks news stories of 2024, where we will be counting down our most-read stories of the year in the days leading up to 2025.
We’re in the home stretch now. Speaking of stretch…
The Stanley Cup Playoffs mean a lot of things. They mean white towels, bitter rivalries both on and off the ice, and, of course, the grind one team makes to earn 16 wins and lift the Stanley Cup when it’s all said and done.
In Vancouver, it also means that the Green Men are likely to make an appearance at Rogers Arena, much to the chagrin of opposing teams.
During the Canucks’ second-round matchup with the Edmonton Oilers back in May, the Oilers reportedly felt the Green Men crossed a line when they held up a sign that referenced Evander Kane’s well-documented issues with gambling.

The report that the Oilers complained came courtesy of Rick Dhaliwal, who said:
“We were told the Edmonton Oilers complained to the NHL in the last round about the Green Men because the Green Men had an Evander Kane sign about gambling. The Green Men were then told you couldn’t go to any more games in Round 2, maybe in Round 3.”
The Green Men were also reportedly told that evening at Rogers Arena to put the sign away for the rest of the game.
Fan opinion was relatively split when it came to this story, but fan interest was high nonetheless, as it ranked as our second most-read Canucks news article of the year.
