Welcome back to our countdown of the top Vancouver Canucks news stories of 2024, where we will be counting down our most-read stories of the year in the days leading up to 2025.
When I was a journalism student many moons ago, we learned about the different elements that make something newsworthy.
They are Proximity, Prominence, Impact, Timeliness, Conflict, Human Interest, and finally, Novelty/Oddity.
This story falls squarely into that last category.
While he may be reserved any time the cameras are on him, Canucks All-Star netminder Thatcher Demko has been known to be quite the class clown in the Canucks’ locker room.
Fans got a glimpse into Demko’s sarcasm when he shared his thoughts about Tyler Myers re-signing with the Canucks ahead of July 1st free agency.
“Best day of my life!!” Demko wrote in an Instagram story, along with the graphic the Canucks created to announce the Myers contract.
As we know, Myers is one of the most well-liked players in the Canucks’ locker room. It’s safe to say you can add Demko, who married his longtime girlfriend Lexie in 2022 and welcomed his first child into the world in 2023, to the list of players we know are big fans of Myers.
Myers re-signed with the Canucks ahead of July 1st free agency on a three-year deal that will pay him $3 million per season. Although Myers has had his ups and downs so far this season, he appeared in career game number 1000 and has helped the Canucks get through the absence of Filip Hronek, who remains out following an upper-body injury and minor lower-body procedure.
