Some roster movement by the Vancouver Canucks, thanks to some recent injuries. On Friday, the club announced that forward Marco Rossi has been placed on injured reserve. In response, the team has called up forward Arshdeep Bains from its American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks.
Rossi has been out of action thanks to a lower-body injury that he suffered in the Canucks’ last game on Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Austrian centre blocked a shot in the third period, resulting in him missing the final eight minutes of the contest. Vancouver went on to lose to former head coach Rick Tocchet once again, this time by a final score of 6-3. It marked the Canucks’ third loss in four games.
Rossi was a key part of the return in the trade that sent former Canucks captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild last month. In his first eight games with Vancouver, Rossi has registered just two points, scoring his first goal with his new team last Saturday in a 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks. The 24-year-old also has a plus/minus of -5 while averaging 18:42 of ice with the Canucks.
In 25 games overall this year, Rossi has notched five goals and 10 assists for 15 points, with a -11 rating.
Bains returns to Vancouver after a brief return to Abbotsford. The 24-year-old has appeared in 26 games with the big club this season, scoring a goal and four assists for five points. He was last in the NHL lineup on Dec. 11 against the Buffalo Sabres. In five games with the Abby Canucks, the Surrey native has posted three goals and three assists for six points.
The Canucks (16-20-3) currently sit at the bottom of the Pacific Division, one point ahead of the Winnipeg Jets for the worst record in the NHL. Vancouver is set to host the Seattle Kraken on Friday night.
