The NHL Trade Deadline has come and gone, and the Vancouver Canucks were fairly quiet.
How did Canucks fans feel about the club’s moves — or lack thereof — at the deadline? We scoured social media to find out.

Soucy Trade

The Canucks got their deadline moves started by trading defenceman Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers for a third round pick. Soucy had long been in trade rumours after the Canucks informed teams around the league that he was available for trade. Soucy had to waive his no-trade clause in order to facilitate the move to the Rangers.

Chris the Curmudgeon: This pick will be right at the beginning of the 3rd round, so it’s not a bad return.
TH: Best of luck Carson, will always remember you for cross-checking McDavid in the face last year (with the assist to Zadorov of course)
Adam Smith: Considering Soucy was a healthy scratch recently, getting ostensively a 2nd round pick is great asset management and clears the way for both EP25 for the rest of the year and Willander when his college year is done and he signs his ELC.
RagnarokOrobros: The return is about what I expected for Soucy. Some people thought we would get a 1st round pick for a player that has been scratched multiple times. The main value is the increase in cap space the Canucks get for the offseason.
CraigCoxe: Good trade. Essentially a late second round pick. Soucy was good last year and a solid NHLer, but he is not a bonafide top four defenceman. Definitely a very solid #5 that can move up when the injuries affect the top 4. EP25 is ahead of schedule and Souce was expendable. Had a great playoff last year.. wish him well in NY.
burnabybob: Knowing how Allvin likes to wheel and deal, that 3rd round pick must be burning a hole in his pocket. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it moved as part of another trade.
ThreePeters: I think it’s a great deal for us. Got a bonus 3rd, most importantly +3 million off the books for next year and a spot for EP25.

Lack of moves + Allvin’s presser

Soucy turned out to be the end of the Canucks’ activity at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline. Patrik Allvin spoke to reporters afterwards, and claimed that there wasn’t much interest in the Canucks’ players. Here’s what Canucks fans had to say about the Canucks’ deadline day and the GM’s comments as a whole

Pucker: Funny thing had they traded him [Boeser], fans would be complaining about the return, they didn’t trade him and fans are complaining. This fan base would complain their ice cream is to cold lol
defenceman factory: Coming off the Soucy trade Canucks had over 11 mil in cap space. Allvin was right not to add using rentals. Disappointing he wasn’t able to leverage some of it to get an asset. There were a few 3 team trades this past week. Wish the Canucks were one of those 3rd teams. GMs always get a lot of grief when they trade out a decent player for a poor return. This is a spot I wonder if management had an opinion. They have never minded watching players walk for nothing if it means keeping the team better in the short term. Still tickets to sell this season. It was always a bit far fetched a team would trade a good young player, especially a centre, to the Canucks. A bit disappointing but Chrétien won four elections doing mostly nothing.
Grumpy Gramps: Disappointing, that’s all. Canucks clearly are not a well-thought of team by other GMs.
tyhee: Very, very disappointing trade deadline. I didn’t mind keeping Forbort but it is hard for me to understand Boeser still being a pending UFA AND still being a Canuck. Perhaps the management team has overrated the market for its players, but with the prices being paid for players and Boeser and Suter still being Canucks one has to assume the Canucks weren’t serious about moving them. This feels like 2016 again with the Canucks losing Hamhuis and Vrbata for nothing.
kanucked: I can’t believe how many in the comments section are takin Allvin at his word. The truth is that the FO couldn’t trade Boeser without a replacement. Aquilini wouldn’t allow it. Throwing Boeser under the bus is icing on a very bad day for management.
BigBA: We watched fringe and role players get traded for 1st’;s, so no one believes you when you say there weren’t any good offers. Just tell us the truth.
CJ: He said we would not believe the offers he was getting. For what teams were paying for players I can’t believe he didn’t get a good offer or two on Boeser. Maybe a little slower player but smart and can score goals. Ownership believes they can sneak in the back door for the playoffs and make a few million. So they are counting on that and will deal with consequences later. I always tried being on the it’s getting g better wagon but I have no hope anymore and yes as it stands now I fear the best defence man or player we ever had will leave when his contract is up and join his brothers or go south somewhere!

Alex Doyle: Could have traded Boeser and Petey for 3rds like Soucy and been better off
Pierre D’Auteuil: You could have gotten a 1st for Boeser no problem so don’t say there was no market when Brandon Tanev and Anthony Beauvillier went for 2nds. Such a lie !
Vic Booth: If he [Boeser] really wants to stay he can accept the more than generous offer and quit listening to his agent. Then again look at what Pettersson is getting for less success.
Hammond Carney: Brian Burke has always said if you want to trade a player, you have to create a market for him. Much like Dubas created a market for Beauvillier and got a 2nd. So Allvin either doesn’t know how to create this market for a player, or he wanted to keep Boeser unless it was a homerun. What he did was lose all leverage he had to Boeser, and will be paying more than the $8M X 5yrs if his intent is to re-sign him, otherwise he’ll just walk into UFA.
Richard Coyle: In a Seller’s market, there wasn’t a market for ANYONE on the Canucks roster…..That’s either a condemnation of the perceived talent and value of the Canucks roster by the other 31 teams OR a clear indication that Canucks Management OVER VALUES the players on the current roster. Either way, it’s a problem…
