Welcome to CanucksArmy’s official live blog of the Vancouver Canucks’ 2025 NHL Trade Deadline!
Talk about being between a rock and a hard place.
Rumours of President Jim Rutherford and GM Patrik Allvin’s plans have been entirely quiet on the trade front leading up to Friday’s deadline. But with the defending Pacific champion Canucks clinging onto their playoff hopes in a prime seller’s market, the franchise is at a crossroads; Do they push for those two home playoff dates? Or make big changes and prepare for the future?
The Canucks have a few pending free agents to make decisions on, including Brock Boeser. Talks about an extension have not progressed thus far, and the likelihood of him having played his last game in the blue and green has increased in the past week. As has been the case for Pius Suter, whose name was linked to the Dallas Stars in recent days.
On Thursday, the Canucks dealt Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers in exchange for a third round pick, kicking off their deadline week trade activity.
The Canucks are looking for scoring help in the top six and potentially more depth on defence, and neither come cheap in a seller’s market. The incentive to punt on the year and accumulate draft picks and prospects is much stronger, but as long as the current ownership structure has been in place, the team has yet to fully pull the plug and start again.
Today will tell us a lot about what the current front office makes of a team anchored by Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson, and how far they can go beyond this year. We’ll be at Rogers Arena all day long, bringing you up-to-the-minute coverage past the 12 PM PT deadline.
Keep refreshing this page for updates as they roll in!

12:50

Well, this was a much less busy trade deadline blog than we were anticipating. But with no Canucks deals it’s time to wrap this up.
Thanks for following along today, and we’ll see you back here again next season.

12:30

Some key quotes from Patrik Allvin’s press conference already underway.
The only way I can describe this is as an exercise in bad faith. Claiming no one wanted Boeser and simultaneously sewering his value publicly is pretty nefarious bargaining, and if they lose Boeser for nothing in the offseason these comments are going to look a whole lot worse.
Not exactly a kind way to treat your longest tenured player and pending UFA.

12:20

Ah, Shea Weber’s contract. The NHL’s regifted peach scented candle.

12:13

This trade deadline has been the Year of the Reunions with Erik Johnson returning to the team he won a Cup with in 2022. At least someone’s having fun!

12:08

Let’s rub some salt in the wound, shall we?
The good news: he didn’t go to Vegas!
The bad news: your second favourite franchise just teamed up with your worst enemy.

12:01

Welp, they did nothing. The Canucks looked at the prices to move, and the prices sell, and chose to do absolutely nothing.
Very cool!

12:00 PM

HOOOOOOOONK! (That’s the trade deadline horn.)
Pencils down, the deadline has passed. Let’s see who submitted before the buzzer.

11:50

Ten minutes to go.
Keep in mind that a lot of trades don’t get finalized by the league until hours after the deadline passes, so we’ll probably see a few things come down the pipeline late.

 11:45

The Canucks have still done nothing, meanwhile the Stars are having a deadline for the ages.
I know better than to pick winners and losers right after a trade deadline, but the Stars are definitely looking a whole lot better today then they did yesterday. Those Central Division playoffs are going to be an absolute gauntlet.

11:30

With half an hour left, Canucks news is eerily quiet right now. This management team has always been pretty good about not letting leaks out until right before a move, so there’s still time for them to do something. But there’s nothing imminent either.

11:21

Cody Glass is going after the Mike Sillinger teams record based on his current trajectory.

11:15

We have another goalie reunion tour happening in Detroit.
One thing’s for sure, Spencer Knight is the guy in Chicago from here on out.

11:03

11:00

ONE. HOUR. TO GO.
The trades are likely gonna all come in the final 15 minutes, so we’re going to be going lightning speed from here on out. Keep refeshing those tabs!

10:55

Plot twist: there’s still a chance Boeser is a Canuck past the noon deadline.

10:45

Time for some self promotion.
Boeser and Rick Tocchet’s body language in the clip tells you they’re running through a play, which seems to imply they’re preparing to have him in the lineup against Minnesota tonight, for the time being.

10:30

The Canucks have hit the ice, and so have some players with futures unknown.

10:15

What’re the odds one of those picks going to the Canes turns into Brock Boeser?

10:09

Not every move is a trade.
The Devils probably aren’t going the distance without Jack Hughes, so using today to lock up some other players makes sense.

10:05

9:51

Rapid fire time!
The Last Supper turned out to be real, and Scott Laughton is heading home to Toronto. We’ll see about the return.
A second round pick for forward depth in Brandon Tanev is a small price for the Jets in the stacked Western Conference.

9:43

Hold on, the Jets gave up HOW MUCH for Schenn?!
Patrik and Jim, I know you’re reading this, time to put the for sale signs up everywhere.

9:38

Good add for the Jets. Luke Schenn has leadership qualities and a veteran precense that will really help Winnipeg in the thick of a playoff run.

9:37

9:30

The biggest shoe is just about to drop. Mikko Rantanen will be a Dallas Star.

9:14

After some delay, we finally have the official Norris/Cozens trade.
The Sens are taking a risk, but I like them swinging on the younger Cozens and going for the playoffs after so many years out of them. Meanwhile, your guess on what the Sabres are doing is as good as mine.

9:05

Yet another former Canuck is getting a weirdly big return in the trade market.
Kuzmenko is on team #4 since the Canucks dealt him to Calgary two Januarys ago, and now he’s an LA King. It’s too bad, I was looking forward to a lengthy Kuz & Torts Friendship Tour.

9:00

We have a big update as we hit 9 am.
No mention of which teams are interested in acquiring Boeser, but a scoring winger of his calibre should give the Canucks for one of the biggest returns of the day if they do move him. We’ll see where this goes.

8:41

If Lou Lamoriello hadn’t gotten a whole lot for Brock Nelson yesterday, I’d be flaming the Islanders a lot more for making a 34 year old Kyle Palmieri a priority.

8:19

Cozens is five years deep into his NHL career, but his development has really stalled out with the Sabres. The Sens are clearly banking on him refinding his 68-point form from 2022-23 in Ottawa, and they were willing to pay a hefty price to do it.

8:07

While we wait for a confirmation on the Senators/Sabres deal, a former Canuck appears to be on the move!
Beauvillier is onto his fifth team in 15 months, but unlike his last four teams this one is firmly in the Cup hunt. Meanwhile the Penguins get a *checks notes* second round pick for him?! That can’t be right.
If this is the cost to get a middle six winger, the Canucks need to be selling everything and the floorboards.

8:00 AM

Starting off with some juicy rumours…
The Canucks had some interest in Josh Norris prior when they were deciding on the fates of Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, especially considering his connection to Quinn Hughes. But now it looks like he’s heading to Buffalo alongside Jacob Bernard-Docker, with Dylan Cozens coming back in the return.
END… FOR NOW!
