The Vancouver Canucks have traded defenceman Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers for a third-round pick, according to multiple reports. According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, the third-round pick in the deal is the one the Rangers acquired from the San Jose Sharks earlier on Thursday.

Soucy waived his no-trade clause to complete the trade. He has one year left on his deal at $3 million.@DarrenDreger first on the trade.

The Canucks sent a memo out to all 31 teams that Soucy was available via trade earlier this season. Soucy had to waive his no-trade clause in order to facilitate the deal.
Soucy is signed through next season at $3.25 million annually. The Canucks signed Soucy to the three-year deal in free agency back in 2023. While the first year of the contract was a success for both Soucy and the Canucks, Soucy’s play has dipped this season.
Soucy has been a healthy scratch once since the 4 Nations break and has been bumped to the third pair since the acquisition of Marcus Pettersson.
After Soucy debuted at 10th on the February 21st edition of Frank Seravalli’s Trade Targets board on Daily Faceoff, he climbed to eighth last Friday, as more pieces from the list continue to be dealt. On Soucy, Seravalli wrote:
“Vancouver sent all 31 clubs a memo on February 3rd notifying them that Soucy was available. One issue: Soucy has a full ‘no-trade’ clause. Uninterested in leaving posthaste, Soucy decided that he wanted to take a couple weeks to try and get his game in order in Vancouver and see if he could rebound from what he admitted has been a tough year. Then the 4 Nations break hit. Soucy can see the writing on the wall and a healthy scratch on the horizon, and he wants to play. He’s a super attractive trade chip if the Canucks retain salary.”
According to Rick Dhaliwal, JT Miller called Soucy ahead of the trade:
JT Miller called Soucy and made the big apple pitch to him.
