If you’ve had trouble keeping track of all of the Vancouver Canucks trade rumours in the lead-up to the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline, we don’t blame you.
Just about everyone over the age of 25 on the Canucks’ roster has seemingly been brought up in some shape or form over the past few months. Daily Faceoff’s lastest trade board featured a whopping 10 Canucks, which we looked over earlier this week.
As we are now less than 24 hours away from Friday’s noon Pacific deadline, we thought it’d be fitting to put all the latest Canucks trade rumours together in one place.
Will the Canucks be able to find a suitor for Evander Kane?
What seemed like a bit of a layup for the past few months might end up coming down to the wire more than we originally thought. The latest scuttlebutt is that there isn’t much of a market materializing for Evander Kane at this juncture, but the Canucks presumably must feel at least a little confident that they’ll be able to find a team to flip Kane to, because a pretty important deadline has already passed. That deadline, of course, is the one the Canucks needed to hit if they were to terminate Kane’s contract and open the door for him to sign with another team before tomorrow’s noon Pacific deadline so that Kane would be eligible to be on that team’s playoff roster. That deadline was at 11 AM Pacific on Thursday, and Kane remains a Canuck today.
Of course, the chance to play in the playoffs and prove he’s still capable of being a playoff contributor should be important to Kane, who turns 35 in August and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. If the Canucks pull off a Kane trade, they’re almost certainly going to use their final retention slot to bring his cap hit down from $5.125 million to $2.562 million. This is obviously a big one to keep an eye on before tomorrow’s deadline.
Will Conor Garland find a new home?
The New York Islanders are very much so in the “buyer” category ahead of tomorrow’s deadline, and there were reports earlier this week that they were chatting with the Canucks about a potential Conor Garland deal. According to Stefen Rosner, the two sides also discussed Brock Boeser, although he has a full no-movement clause.
Speaking of no-movement clauses… the urgency for the rebuilding Canucks to find a new home for Garland could be somewhat high, as his six-year extension — featuring a full no-move clause — kicks in on July 1st. Garland has given no indication he wants out right now, but a true nightmare scenario for the Canucks would be Garland changing his mind and asking out after he has full control of the situation.
On top of the Islanders, the Boston Bruins were in contact with the Canucks about Garland earlier this week, according to rg.org’s Jimmy Murphy. Read more about that by clicking here!
Can the Canucks trade Blueger and Kämpf?
We’ve seen some centres move this week, with a couple getting across the finish line on Thursday. Michael McCarron landed in Minnesota for a second round pick on Tuesday, and Jason Dickinson went to Edmonton on Wednesday. On Thursday morning, the Leafs flipped Nic Roy to the Colorado Avalanche for a first and fifth round pick, while the Golden Knights got Nic Dowd from the Capitals for Jesper Vikman, along with a second and third round pick.
Can the Canucks entice some teams that missed out on those centres to view Teddy Blueger and David Kampf as check-down options? There hasn’t been a ton of noise around Blueger and Kämpf aside from the expected “these guys are UFAs, and the Canucks should trade their UFAs.” It takes two to tango, and Canucks GM Patrik Allvin said on Wednesday that there wasn’t much of a trade market out there (in general, he wasn’t specifically referencing any Canucks players).
Canucks in trade talks with teams about Drew O’Connor
Drew O’Connor leads the Canucks in goals with 14, and according to David Pagnotta, the club is in talks with teams surrounding O’Connor. O’Connor is signed through this season and next at a cap hit of $2.5 million, and is a big body who can skate. His recent production clearly hasn’t gone unnoticed either, and the Canucks should absolutely be doing what they can to create a market for O’Connor in what is looking more and more like an ideal trade market to be a selling team.
Interest in Elias Pettersson?
This one is at the bottom for two reasons. First, it’s the oldest information of any of the things we’ve written about. Second, it just doesn’t seem like a team would be willing to take on Pettersson without any retention at this deadline, meaning if the Canucks want to trade him, it might make more sense to do it in the offseason.
TSN’s Darren Dreger reported back on February 25th that there is “renewed interest” in Pettersson, and on the following Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, Elliotte Friedman shared that the Canucks aren’t willing to retain on Pettersson’s $11.6 million annual cap hit, which would presumably lower the number of teams interested in Pettersson ahead of this deadline. It just doesn’t seem all that likely that Pettersson finds a new home before Friday’s deadline, so don’t hold your breath on this one.
