It’s been an up-and-down year for the Vancouver Canucks’ 2022 first-round pick Jonathan Lekkerimäki.
Lekkerimäki scored three goals and added six assists in an injury-ridden season where he played in 29 regular season games.
Let’s rewind back to when Lekkerimäki suffered a foot injury during training and his Allsvenskan team announced an eight-week timeline on February 7th. Fast-forward to today, and Lekkerimäki is back in the lineup and playing in a top-line role.
The last time we spoke with Lekkerimäki, he mentioned that his rehabilitation was going very well and though he was bummed about the foot injury, he was grateful for the extra time to spend in the gym.
Lekkerimäki is ranked second in our list of Canucks prospects and may slide into third place behind Elias Pettersson (D-Petey) and Aatu Räty.
It’s great news to see Lekkerimäki back in the lineup and with his Allsvenskan team for this playoff run. We’re hopeful for Lekkerimäki to have success in the playoffs after a regular season that was quite a letdown from our pre-season projections.
The game is scheduled for 11:00 am Pacific Time and we will surely update you with an article if Lekkerimäki is able to find the scoresheet or plays a strong game.
These experiences in the playoffs can do nothing but help a young player and the fact that the coaching staff trusts Lekkerimäki enough to put him in a top-line role for his return says something positive to us.
We will keep you posted if he has a strong return.
