Welcome back to WDYTT, the only hockey column on the internet that runs as consistently as a train.
Speaking of trains, Training Camp is now less than a month away from us. The Vancouver Canucks will kick their camp off in Penticton on September 17, at which point one of the longer summers in franchise history will finally be at its end.
To say that fans of the Canucks are looking forward to the 2026-27 campaign might be slightly inaccurate. Most understand it’s likely to be another year filled with losses and aimed directly at the league basement. But at the same time, the organization’s apparent commitment to a rebuild has re-energized the fanbase, and if there’s not that much excitement in the air about 2026-27, there is about what it all might mean – as in, where the things started in 2026-27 might eventually lead in the long run.
That all starts, naturally, with camp. Whereas the team itself might not have immediate success as a primary goal, there are still going to be a lot of individuals coming into Camp ’26 with goals of their own, and with something to prove.
On a team with as many question marks as the Canucks, there’s probably more of this going on in Canucks camp than elsewhere around the league. And with that in mind, we thought we’d get your early thoughts on who you might be expecting to arrive in Penticton with something to prove.
This week, we’re asking you:
Who has the most to prove in Canucks Training Camp 2026?
Let it be known in the comment section.
Who will be the Canucks’ leading point-scorer in 2026-27?
You answered below!
kanucked:
I’ll go with the favourite: EP40.
RagnarokOroboros:
Pettersson. I believe he will have a bounce back year. He may not be a point-a-game player this year, but I think he will get close.
It all depends on who is on his line. DeBrusk will be on the first line, and he needs to score 5-on-5. The question is whether Lekkerimäki or Karlsson will be on the first line and whether they can make the most of the opportunity.
Hockey Bunker:
Rossi.
burnabybob:
Braeden Cootes will shock Canuck world and lead the team in scoring… with 42 points.
Rickster64:
I’ll take Marco Rossi for the win with a big 61 points.
George:
Pete bounces back some what… he still has the worst wingers in the league compared to any other 1C. New coach, new locker room. He gets 70 to 80.
Also why they should try and land Laine… give him some potential help. Maybe they get each other going so they can both be moved.
BigBA2:
Would love to see it be Pettersson, however, my guess is that that Rossi will be our highest point player this upcoming season

If Manny is bold and is willing to use Buium on the PP and most offensive zone starts, he could be a monster surprise and end up third or fourth in scoring next season.
Harold Drunken:
Once again, I’m going with Brooks Rogowski.
Jibsys:
Definately Marco Rossi.
We didn’t see the real Marco after the trade last season because of a lingering foot issue, but he still showed up and competed.
He is a very driven and determined guy. This season he builds on his career high of 60 and gets closer to 70 points.
Kearnsie:
Point-per-game Pettersson is going to lead the team with 84 points in 84 games played.
Superpest:
Like a few posters, already, Rossi. Keep the Brö line together, and, with some injury luck, I’m going with Rossi, too, but with 71 points. Boeser a close second with 30 goals and 35 assists. Bank it. Oh, and Öhgren breaks through with 42 points.
Tim 122:
It better be EP40 or it will determine he’s not worth much on the trade market. If he can’t lead this roster it’s a bad thing for him and the team.
Craig Gowan:
It will probably be EP40, although I wouldn’t rule Rossi out, if he continues to play with Boeser and Öhgren.
Nanaimo Bars:
Canucks will trade next year’s first rounder and Lekkerimäki for Steven Stamkos.
They’ll anoint him the next Captain who’ll lead to the Canucks to absolutely nowhere, and finish the season with 23 goals and 57 points.
Book it. Lol. (Just having fun, btw. Benning ain’t the GM anymore.)
Richard Hickey:

I would prefer a points-per-game metric over a minimum number of games played (55). Too hard to predict gross totals with injuries always in the mix.
On my unsolicited metric, it will be EP40 at .87 points per game. The next closest player will be Rossi at .77.
brian hodgson:
With all the negative talk around EP40, I’m hoping that he gets it together this year to make it difficult for the team to want to trade him. Hopefully showing up ready to go.
Antoski:
Ep40 or Rossi: two regular season-type players that will probably hit 60 points bcause IF they stay healthy, both will be given tons of ice times in the top-six and PP. Truly a perfect roster for a team that should be tanking and selling.
HFI Mexico:
For me, I hope it is EP40. I predict 81 points on the season. I think he has the chance to reinvent himself with a group of players and a group of coaches and I really don’t think he is a play-under-pressure guy. Fortunately for him there is zero pressure on the team this year.
Magic Head:
If the Canucks don’t make any significant roster changes and if he’s healthy, the leading scorer will be Pettersson and it won’t even be close.
PavelBuuure10:
If I was to use reason, my initial guess would be whoever remains the healthiest between Rossi and EP40 will win the turtle derby of the Canucks top scorer at the end of 2026-2027, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone else takes it, like Hronek. I’ll go Rossi though.
JCanuck:
Think EP and Rossi will be very close. EP gets back in the PP, but hasn’t had the linemates to help. Chytil could be the fast wing that EP likes playing with, but the BRO line sticks together.
Both EP and Rossi in the 70s, but Rossi wins.
Agent86Fan:
Harold Snepsts will make a dramatic comeback as a net front forward and tap in 76 rebound goals!
