Welcome back to WDYTT, the only hockey column on the internet that’s a weekly journey into mystery.

Speaking of mystery, there’s plenty to be found surrounding the 2026-27 Vancouver Canucks. Not really as it pertains to the big picture – most are pretty certain that these Canucks will not be making it to the playoffs, or getting particularly close. But definitely with the smaller questions, including who the Canucks’ leading scorer might be.

The Canucks have had quite a run of alternating leading scorers. JT Miller led with 99 points in 2021-22. Elias Pettersson bettered that with 102 points in 2022-23. Then, Miller bested him by one with 103 points in 2023-24. Quinn Hughes took over with 76 points in 2024-25. And for 2025-26, the lead was somehow back to Pettersson, albeit with just 51 points on the year.

That leaves us looking ahead at the 2026-27 season and having no real idea who is going to lead the Canucks in points this time around.

If there’s an odds-on favourite, it’s probably still Pettersson, just because he did so last year and is still likely penciled in as the team’s 1C. But unless he enacts a serious rebound, he’ll have some stiff competition. Brock Boeser and Filip Hronek only trailed Pettersson by a few points. Marco Rossi scored at roughly the same pace as Pettersson after being traded to Vancouver, and did so while playing through an injury. Linus Karlsson led the team in even-strength scoring. Younger folks, like Zeev Buium and Liam Öhgren, have serious breakout potential. Heck, even Jake DeBrusk, if he sticks around, is a legitimate candidate here.

In the end, it feels like it could be any one of them. So, let’s get your predictions on the record now.

For as long as he remains a Canuck, it has to be Boeser for me. He’s grown up here, laid bare all his misfortunes, pulled fans out of their seats with clutch goals, and just seems like a down to earth stand up guy, impossible not to root for.

My guess is in 2026/27 a fan favourite will be Paul Cotter. Everyone likes a team player that likes to throw their weight around and I’m hoping that Cotter fills that need while also contributing on the scoresheet.

Boeser. Takes a licking but keeps on ticking.

It used to be Petey. I hope he becomes my favourite current Canuck again one day. But for now, I guess my favourite current player to watch is … Öhgren? Hope he can take things up another notch this season. He could be a very good power forward for us one day.

Luke Schenn.

I like tough defenders and “Daddy” plays an honest, hard-nosed old-school style that I can relate to. My favorite player in the late ’80s was Garth Butcher, and Schenn plays a style pretty similar to Garth.

EP 40 is my favourite player. Clearly a unique personality and one that no one here seems to understand, or want to understand.

I had to look that up regarding Trey Fix-Wolansky. 5’7″, 194 lbs, 31 AHL goals, AND 121 PIM! I think he may already be my favourite Canuck, and he hasn’t even played a game here yet.

Meh, I’m gonna’ go with Zeev, people seem to be excited by him.

But I say Hronek.

If I was picking someone lesser,

It might be old Brock Boeser.

I will have to go w Zeev.

He has won at every level and brings that attitude to the locker room. After a shocking trade at 20, I believe he will step up next season.

Linus Karlsson. He patiently honed his craft in the AHL and has turned into one of better forwards on the team.

My favorite is Zeev Buium. Young and skilled. He took the place of a somber captain and arrived with a smile.

Back in the 70s and 80s when these polls would run, the answer would end up being Jim Robson. So in keeping with tradition, I’m going with John Shorthouse!

I like players that are loyal to the Canucks colours and don’t make trade requests when things get tough. Even though EP40 and Demko have struggled these past few seasons, I can’t say I dislike them as a fan. They’ve been loyal Canucks and I hope they bounce back or they’re traded to a contender if things don’t work out for them here.

I hope Mancini makes it. He was the only Canuck player to stand up for Chytil in the Caps game when Chytil was taken out by Wilson. Everyone else looked the other way. At least Mancini fought somebody.

My favorite on ice is Luke Schenn. My favorite person on the Canucks is definitely Brock Boeser for his off-ice personality. Both are stand-up guys.

Canuck fans will always get behind any player who works hard and makes a contribution to the team.

No player will ignite fans more by playing well than Pettersson. Let’s hope he is capable of doing that and gives fans reasons to chant his name.

Buium seems like a real cut-up who brings a sense of fun to the rink every day. Hard not to cheer for a guy who is always smiling.

Can’t say I really have a favourite right now but always liked Malhotra as a player. If he can skipper the current ragtag roster into a tough out this season and integrate in young talent over the next few years, he will become a favourite.

I am going with Gallagher, as he is the feel good story, returning home, the pick the Canucks should have made in the first place. His play, preparation, and training should show the younger players how to do it. I think for a promotional campaign, the Canucks should get him to smash some watermelons!

Yikes, trick question. As soon as I say something out loud – he’s gone. Horvat, Hughes, Sherwood, etc.

A guy like Cotter could be if he comes in and takes over the role of Sherwood. Schenn will always be liked by fans. My favourite moment of his was when he tore a strip off Miller at the end of a period while they were skating off the ice. Respect. Buium will move up the ladder if he can start to fill the void of hUGHes. DPetey if he gets his mean streak back. He kind of reminds me of Ohlund, which is a good thing.

There is no Canuck on the roster that is a current favorite of mine.

Linus Karlsson is growing on me though.

Lots of baggage with a lot of the veterans and the kids are too unproven. I’m going with Demko. He has stated his loyalty to the team and is training here in the offseason.

Most of his baggage is related to his injuries. He has gone through countless surgeries. There is a good argument that some of those are due to his tendency to over-train.

Who doesn’t love a good comeback story?

Yikes. I am stuck for an answer. I really don’t have a favourite player at this point in time. As a person, I’d have to say Boeser, although he often infuriates me as a player. If pressed to pick a favourite out of the current players, I would be forced to say Liam Öhgren. Of the three young players with a lot of potential (Willander, Buium, and Öhgren), he looks furthest along on the development scale. Great skater, two-way player, and he has a nice scoring touch. I think one day he’ll be a 20-goal-scoring top-six winger.

Speaking this year only. It’s Schenn, it will be Schenn, and it will always be Schenn. He will be the fan favorite for the season. There is no other.

Always Gino Odjick, no matter what.

If Zeev B was the one who initiated the after-practice fight practice, I’ll pick him. The clip of which looked like they were having a good time!
