The Vancouver Canucks are likely to be shorthanded once again as their road trip continues Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.
The Canucks won their game in Washington on Sunday, marking their third straight victory, but lost some bodies in the process. With Brock Boeser already announced as unavailable due to personal reasons, the Canucks were without both Filip Chytil and Jonathan Lekkerimäki by the end of the first period.
Chytil found himself on the receiving end of a booming hit from Capitals forward Tom Wilson, and needed help getting off the ice afterwards. The concern level for Chytil is obviously high, given the 26-year-old centre’s extensive and well-documented concussion history. Jonathan Lekkerimäki also didn’t return for the second period vs. Washington, and appeared to be favouring his arm after making awkward contact with a Capitals player on what ended up being his final shift of the game.
And if that wasn’t enough, Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy reported after the game that centre Teddy Blueger was being evaluated after getting shaken up late in the game vs. the Capitals.
According to Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin provided the following updates on the four Canucks players:
-Both Filip Chytil and Jonathan Lekkerimäki flew back to Vancouver with Canucks medical staff for further evaluation.
-Teddy Blueger is “doubtful” to play Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
-Brock Boeser’s return from his leave of absence Tuesday in Pittsburgh is a “possibility”
