Welcome to our top 10 Vancouver Canucks fights of all time. With our friends from HockeyFights.com, our top Canucks fight of all time is the fight between Craig Coxe vs. Bob Probert – Round 2.
Earlier in the summer, we covered our top 5 Vancouver Canucks fights of the 2024-2025 season. You can rewatch all of these fights here:
A little over two years after their first fight, Coxe and Probert met each other again on November 19, 1987. This time, the Canucks travelled to Detroit. However, this game got off to a similar start as two years ago, as Steve Tambellini opened the scoring again. Coxe would double the Canucks lead with under two minutes remaining in the opening frame.
David Saunders wasted no time in the second period, extending the Canucks lead to three within the first 30 seconds of the middle frame. Fast forward to the end of the second when Coxe and Probert met for Round 2.
The two start dancing around, trying to feel each other’s next move out. Probert throws his hands toward Coxe, but nothing threatening. It isn’t until the six-second mark that we see Coxe throw the first punch. He doesn’t connect, but Probert does straight to the jaw of Coxe.
Despite just getting rocked, Coxe remained on the attack. He was relentless with his punches, swinging with his right hand and immediately following that up with a left punch. But that didn’t faze Probert, who kept throwing haymakers at Coxe.
Probert and Coxe went back and forth for a while. Coxe was able to knock Probert’s helmet off, but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity. As the two were running out of energy and started to wind down, the Probert locks up Coxe’s arms. He then swings around, and Probert catches him with a pair of unexpected right upper-cuts that clearly stung Coxe.
Realizing that Coxe was now done with the fight, the referees came in and broke the two up. It only seemed right that these two earned not only the top spot, but the top two spots. These were the only two fights between these two in their careers, and boy, were they bangers.
HockeyFights voters gave this fight a 9.7/10 and heavily favoured Probert, who earned 87% of the 103 votes. Coxe received just 3% of the votes, with the draw earning 10%.
