The Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild are 5-5 against each other in the last 10 meetings between these two teams. The Canucks face the Wild in the first game of their best-of-five playoff series on Sunday night in Edmonton.
Vancouver is a slight -115 betting favorite for Sunday on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com with Minnesota the small -105 underdog. Minnesota has won four of its last five games against the Canucks.
Wild vs Canucks | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Canucks had one of the most severe home and road splits in the NHL before the season was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Vancouver had one of the league’s best home records at 22-9-4 but struggled on the road to the tune of a 14-18-2 record. With no fans in the stands this postseason, the young Canucks won’t have to deal with the highs and lows that crowd noise usually brings to the NHL playoffs.
Vancouver entered the break with a 36-27-6 record. The Canucks went 2-5 straight up over their last seven games before the regular season came to a halt.
Minnesota opened the 2019-20 season with four straight losses and was still a pedestrian 20-20-6 through the team’s first 46 games. But the Wild were coming on strong before the regular season was postponed going 15-7-1 in a 22-game stretch that included two wins over the Canucks. The Wild were 8-3 in their final 11 games of the regular season and played well on the road with a 7-1 record in their last eight games away from home.
Sunday’s total is set at 5.5 goals at online sports betting sites. The OVER is 6-1 in Vancouver’s last seven home games against Minnesota.
As indicated by the tight moneyline, this figures to be one of the most competitive series of the qualifying round. It’s a tough draw for the Canucks, but one that should provide this young core with some valuable playoff experience whether the team wins or loses. There isn’t much room for error in a five-game series, so look for plenty of intensity right out of the gate for these two teams as they battle for a spot in the Round of 16.
