Vancouver Canucks prospects Sawyer Mynio and Anthony Romani both scored during Tuesday’s scrimmage between Teams Red and White at the Hockey Canada summer camp in preparation for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.
The two 2005-born players are both vying for spots on a Canadian team that will most likely be headlined by Gavin McKenna (2026), Berkly Catton (SEA), Tij Iginla (UTA), and Zayne Parekh (CGY) this winter. Mynio skated on a pairing with Parekh with Team Red on Tuesday; Romani lined up with Cole Beaudoin (UTA) and undrafted forward Vincent Collard for Team White.
Mynio made his presence felt early in Tuesday’s game, setting up a goal by the high-flying Bradly Nadeau (CAR) early in the first period before scoring one of his own midway through the second. The 2023 third-round pick corralled a pass by Parekh at the left point before uncorking a shot that fooled top goalie prospect Carson Bjarnason (PHI).

Mynio’s goal put Team Red up 3-0, although that lead quickly proved not to be safe. After Denver Barkey (PHI) and Riley Heidt (MIN) scored in succession to kick off the third period, Romani converted on a one-timer while falling to bring Team White back even in the final few minutes of regulation time. Beckett Sennecke (ANA) set up Romani on the 2-on-1 rush leading to the goal.
A pair of Seattle prospects hooked up for the game-winning goal shortly after Romani’s equalizer, with Catton assisting on Carson Rehkopf’s deciding tally to seal a 4-3 victory for Team Red. Mynio ended up being one of three players with multiple points in the game, with Parekh and Catton being the others.
Mynio, 19, collected 16 goals and 53 points in 63 games with the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds during the 2023-24 regular season. The previous year, the 6’1″ left-handed defender collected four points in 19 playoff games as Seattle captured the WHL championship.
Romani, 19, went undrafted in 2023 but attracted the Canucks’ attention after putting up 58 goals and 111 points in 68 games with the OHL’s North Bay Battalion in 2023-24. The Canucks selected Romani in the sixth round (No. 162 overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft.
Full highlights from the scrimmage are available here. With it now in the books, Mynio and Team Red will return to action on Wednesday evening to take on Team Sweden as the World Junior Summer Showcase continues in Windsor, Ontario.
