The Vancouver Canucks announced 17 cuts to their 2024 training camp roster on Sunday afternoon.
The Canucks assigned 10 players to the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, sent four more to the Canadian Hockey League, and released three altogether, bringing their new total in camp to 48 (six goaltenders, 17 defencemen, and 25 forwards).
Of the 17 players cut by the Canucks on Sunday, 11 were attending their training camp on a tryout basis.
The Canucks released goaltender Dylan Ferguson and forwards Ty Halaburda and Deagan McMillan outright. They assigned forwards Carsen Twarynski, John Stevens, Cooper Walker, and Dino Kambeitz; defencemen Joseph Arnsten, Layton Ahac, and Zach Berzolla; and goaltender Jonathan Lemieux to Abbotsford.
Furthermore, the Canucks also assigned forward prospects Josh Bloom and Ty Glover, both of whom are currently on NHL contracts, to the AHL. The Canucks originally acquired both prospects via trade, adding Bloom in the Riley Stillman trade with the Buffalo Sabres and Glover as part of the Jack Rathbone-for-Mark Friedman deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Finally, the Canucks reassigned high-scoring forward Anthony Romani to the OHL’s North Bay Battalion, returned smooth-skating defender Parker Alcos to the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings, loaned shifty centre Riley Patterson to the OHL’s Barrie Colts, and sent Swiss rearguard Basile Sansonnens to the QMJHL’s Rimouski Océanic. The Canucks selected all four players in the 2024 NHL Draft.
