Earlier today, I wrote about how the Canucks have been the worst team in the league since Christmas. Since Christmas, the Canucks have a record of 6-15-1, good enough for 13 points and an overall points percentage of .295.
This came as a bit of a surprise to me, so after I had finished writing the article (which you can read by clicking here) I dove into some more stats and prepared to talk about them on today’s episode of Canucks Conversation alongside Chris Faber. Faber wore his best bowtie in honour of Arturs Silovs, and I wore my Padres hat in honour of… Cole Hamels?
You can watch the clip below:
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the Canucks have given up more goals than any team over their stretch of 22 games since Christmas. What did come as a bit of a surprise was that their league-worst 95 goals against over that stretch were 13 ahead of the Anaheim Ducks, who sit second-last over that stretch with 83. From there, the margin between the Ducks and the rest of the league is much, much closer.
The Canucks are giving up goals at a ridiculous rate over this stretch of games where they’ve amassed the worst record in the NHL. The other interesting number during this stretch is that the Canucks have scored the seventh-most goals in the entire league during that same stretch. League-wide! That’s wild!
Also unsurprisingly, the Canucks have given up a league-worst 48 high-danger goals against over this stretch, according to Natural Stat Trick. And, you guessed it, the Canucks are near the top of the league in their creation of high-danger goals with 39, which puts them fifth league-wide.
Also on today’s episode, Faber gave an update on NCAA free agent defenceman Jake Livingstone, and it’s one that you won’t want to miss if you’re a Canucks fan.
