Aatu Raty is on his way back to the Vancouver Canucks.
According to Canucks Army reporter Jeff Paterson, Raty’s name is now on the Canucks’ roster on their website, indicating that he has been recalled from their AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks.
The call-up comes in the wake of injuries to both center Elias Pettersson and winger Nils Hoglander during Saturday’s 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers. While we have yet to receive an official update for either player, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet said after the game that the team would likely need to recall a center, and Raty appears to be the center that they’ve gone with.
Linus Karlsson was the team’s only forward on the roster not in the lineup on Saturday, so they needed another forward if both Pettersson and Hoglander both end up out of the lineup for Monday’s game against the New Jersey Devils.
It’s unclear whether or not Raty will draw in to the lineup on Monday, and if so, where in the lineup he’ll be playing in.
Raty has spent the season between the NHL and AHL this season, and has slowly reached the point where he’s too good for the AHL but unable to find a consistent role in the NHL. In 41 games with Abbotsford, he has 17 goals and 22 assists for 39 points, while in 21 games with Vancouver, he has just 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points. That said, that is the most productive he’s been in his three NHL seasons, partially due to playing more games.
The Canucks currently sit in fifth in the Pacific Division with a 32-26-12 record, and are three points behind the St. Louis Blues for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Vancouver will look to bounce back from back-to-back losses to the Blues and Rangers when they visit the Devils in New Jersey at 4:30 p.m. PST.
