The NHL unveiled the results for the 2025-26 All-Rookie Team, and while no Vancouver Canucks found themselves on the team, two players received votes: Zeev Buium and Linus Karlsson.
Ivan Demidov, Beckett Sennecke, Jimmy Snuggerud, Matthew Schaefer, Alexander Nikishin and Jakub Dobes were all the eventual winners of the award.
The NHL All-Rookie Team is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association, with the team being made up of the best three rookie forwards, two rookie defencemen and one rookie goaltender of the 2025-26 season.
Buium finished third in voting for defencemen. He received nine points in the voting score, which was well off the top two of Schaefer (194) and Nikishin (184), but he was the only other defenceman to receive more than one point. Karlsson was ninth among the nine forwards who received votes, and the only one to receive a singular point.
Buium was solid in his first regular season at the NHL level, with six goals and 20 assists for 26 points in 76 games, including three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 45 games since joining the Canucks as part of the return for Quinn Hughes. He was tied for 23rd in points by a rookie in the 2025-26 season, and was third among defencemen behind Schaefer and Nikishin. On top of not scoring at the same level as the two defenders named to the All-Rookie Team, Buium struggled in his own zone significantly more as well.
Karlsson had a surprisingly good rookie season for the Canucks, getting a chance for a full-time NHL role after an excellent performance during the Abbotsford Canucks’ run to the Calder Cup Final in 2025. He finished the year with 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points in 79 games, which tied him for eighth in rookie scoring.
Buium and Karlsson were two of the 10 rookies to dress for the Canucks in the 2025-26 season, and two of five to play a consistent role on the team. The other three being Tom Willander, Liam Öhgren and Nikita Tolopilo.
