The Vancouver Canucks have placed defenceman Tucker Poolman on long-term injured reserve, the club announced Monday afternoon.

Poolman, 29, has appeared in three games with the Canucks this season, recording one assist and averaging 13:58 per night.

The Canucks also placed Quinn Hughes on injured reserve and recalled Noah Juulsen from the American Hockey League’s Abbotsford Canucks.

The Canucks originally signed Poolman to a four-year, $10 million contract as an unrestricted free agent in July 2021.

The 6’2″ right-handed defender appeared in just 40 games with the Canucks while battling to stay healthy during the 2021–22 regular season and now appears to have suffered another significant injury.

In 163 career NHL games with Vancouver and Winnipeg over parts of five regular seasons, Poolman has scored six goals and 23 points while averaging 16:46 per game. He logged exactly 17 minutes per night in his debut campaign with the Canucks.

With Hughes on IR, Poolman out long-term, and Riley Stillman also injured, the Canucks — still searching for their first win of the season — will likely go with a defensive group of Luke Schenn, Jack Rathbone, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Kyle Burroughs, Tyler Myers, and Guillaume Brisebois against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday evening.

The Canucks are the only National Hockey League team still without a win in 2022–23.
