Sportsnet hockey insider Elliotte Friedman appeared on Tuesday’s edition of Donnie & Dhali – The Team on CHEK TV to discuss all things Vancouver Canucks with hosts Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal.

Friedman discussed the contract status of Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau, who is currently signed to a one-year deal with an option for the 2022–23 season.

“I look at Boudreau,” Friedman said. “I think, about a month ago, they weren’t sure what they were gonna do here, and now I think they realize, the guy has to stay.

“If everybody here is reasonable, I think it’s going to get done,” Friedman added, referring to a contract extension for Boudreau. “If he wants to go four years, I could see the Canucks saying, ‘uhh, I don’t know.’ But I think if we’re talking, like, a three-year term, here, I think that there’s a way to get this done.”

After starting the season with an 8–15–2 record under previous head coach Travis Green, the Canucks have gone 30–15–9 under Boudreau and somehow still remain alive in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Canucks (38–30–11) have just three games left on their 2021–22 regular season schedule, starting with Tuesday’s game against the Seattle Kraken.

If Vancouver picks up two points against Seattle and the Vegas Golden Knights prevail in regulation over the Dallas Stars, the door will remain open for the Canucks to qualify for the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs.
