All signs point towards the Vancouver Canuks naming Patrik Allvin general manager, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported Tuesday.
Allvin is a name that has been linked to the Canucks from almost day one of their general manager search, one that has been exhaustive after Jim Benning was shown the door.
This past week Allvin was in Vancouver for in-person interviews and has long been considered the front runner for the job.
The 47-year-old broke into the NHL as a European scout for the Montreal Canadiens between 2002-2006, before joining the Pittsburgh Penguins in the same role.
He then joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as a European scout between 2006-2012 before being promoted to director of European scouting, then later director of amateur scouting in 2017.
“We are very fortunate to have Patrik on our staff to make this an easy transition,” Jim Rutherford said of Allvin at the time of his promotion. “He is a terrific judge of talent, and he has the leadership qualities to lead our amateur scouting department into the future.”
Over the last two years, he’s been working as the Penguins’ assistant general manager.
There’s no denying the connection to Rutherford, who would’ve worked closely for years with Allvin and was directly responsible for his promotions.
Nonetheless, this will be a story to keep a close eye on in the coming days.
