Vancouver Canucks prospect @Danila Klimovich almost doubled his entire 2021–22 penalty minute total late in the Abbotsford Canucks’ 4–3 loss to the San Diego Gulls on Saturday.
The 19-year-old forward dropped the gloves with San Diego Gulls defenceman @Nikolas Brouillard in the final minute of play in regulation time, upping his PIM total on the year from 6 to 11 in the process.
With the Canucks trailing 4–2, Klimovich prompted the altercation when he drove to the net in the offensive zone and lifted Brouillard’s stick completely out of his hands.
The 26-year-old Gulls defenceman (and former McGill Martlet) immediately gave Klimovich a shove from behind, which subsequently turned into a headlock. Klimovich responded by beginning to throw punches with his exposed right hand.

The Canucks originally selected Klimovich in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft. The 6’2″ Belarusian right wing has four goals and nine points in 24 AHL games with Abbotsford this season.
After Klimovich’s fight, Canucks forward @Phil Di Giuseppe scored to draw his team within one goal … with just one second remaining in the third period. The Gulls won Saturday’s game 4–3.
