You can add Florida Panthers assistant general manager Brett Peterson’s name to the list of candidates for the Vancouver Canucks‘ vacant GM position.
According to The Athletic’s Thomas Drance, Peterson is another candidate for the Canucks’ GM job.
“I have a new name that I can confirm is part of this process: Brett Peterson” Drance said on Wednesday’s edition of Canucks Talk on Sportsnet 650. “Brett Peterson is an assistant general manager with the Florida Panthers, and I can confirm that he’s been part of this process and interviewed. Really interesting background, he used to be at Wasserman… Brett Peterson’s a name I’m hearing, and I think he’s an impressive guy. This is a longtime agent who’s been with the Panthers since 2020 and has had a front row seat to what’s become a mini dynasty in this cap era… that’s a name to look for especially as we begin to get to a point in the process where the club gets down to brass tacks.”
Peterson has served in the Panthers’ front office since 2020-21. In the time since then, the Panthers have obviously enjoyed tremendous success, capturing back-to-back Stanley Cups the last two seasons. Peterson has also served as GM and AGM for Team USA at the last three World Championships (GM in 2024 and 2026, AGM in 2025).
A native of Northborough, Massachusets, the 44-year-old Peterson spent four seasons as a player at Boston College before embarking on a five-year pro career, spending time in the ECHL and AHL. Following that playing career, Peterson became a player agent. He joined Acme World Sports (founded by current Panthers GM Bill Zito) and later became the Vice President of Hockey for Wasserman Media Group, representing Tuuka Rask, TJ Oshie, and other high-profile NHLers. Peterson is well-known and well-regarded in league circles.
A number of names have already been linked to the Canucks over the past week, with the club reportedly seeking approval to speak with Kevyn Adams (Sabres), Shane Doan (Leafs), and Bill Scott (Oilers). On Wednesday morning, Rick Dhaliwal reported that the Canucks will also interview Patrick Burke, son of ex-Canucks GM Brian Burke.
