Hopefully, you were able to keep up with our CanucksArmy top 20 Vancouver Canucks mid-season prospect rankings over the last few weeks.
If you haven’t, don’t worry. We have you covered today.
We know that 20 articles plus an Honourable Mention’s list is a lot to keep up with, so here’s your speed round recap. We will give a brief overview of the prospect, with a link to get a deeper look at each.
First, let’s go over the ground rules of our rankings.
The first rule is that a prospect must be under 25, which instantly eliminated quite a few names. Players like Linus Karlsson, Akito Hirose and Tristen Nielsen, who will be 25 by the end of this wave of rankings, have been eliminated from contention.
Prospects must also have played fewer than 25 NHL games (regular season and playoffs), instantly cutting a handful of the organization’s prized names. Players such as Aatu Räty, Arturs Silovs, and Max Sasson (technically 25, but it’s very close), who would have all enjoyed solid grades within these rankings, were absent from this list.
Aside from that, our ranking criteria are pretty obvious:
First and foremost is the upside: Where do we think their top potential could be?
Will these players realize that upside? Who knows. We understand that not every player will hit, but what could they become in a perfect world? For better or for worse, it’s important to remember that the path a prospect takes in their development is rarely linear. Some higher pedigree kids never pan out, while some develop late and carve out respected careers. You simply never know.
Age played a significant factor. Parker Alcos, a freshly drafted 18-year-old, will have a much longer developmental path and, as a result, a greater chance of hitting that upside than 24-year-old Jett Woo.
We also considered the depth chart. Kirill Kudryavtsev is a skilled defender but faces competition from many other left-shot defenders in the system. So, where does he fall in the pecking order? Having higher-lauded names in front of him directly affects his spot in the depth chart, ultimately weighing him down in our ranking system.
We stress that their spot on the depth chart is far less impactful than the former, but it is still always considered when ranking our prospects.
Finally, location played a small part in our thought process. For younger prospects, it’s not as concerning. Yet, as they hit that 22-year mark and still have no plans to cross the pond, it reflects poorly on their future upside within the system.
With that, we bring you our speed recap.

Honourable Mentions

Daimon Gardner
Team: St. Cloud State University | Age: 21 | Position: Centre | Height: 6’4 | Weight: 201 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Fourth round, 112 overall, 2022
With his towering 6-foot-4 frame, Daimon Gardner possesses many intriguing qualities. His blend of skating ability, a solid release, and power-forward potential is undeniable. However, his performance at the NCAA level has yet to translate into consistent production. Despite a transfer to St. Cloud State, his offensive output remains modest. His unique profile remains enticing but not enough to crack a spot within our top 20.
Aiden Celebrini
Team: Boston University | Age: 20 | Position: Defence | Height: 6’1 | Weight: 190 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Sixth round, 171 overall, 2023
Aiden Celebrini is a prospect praised for his character and work ethic. While his personality shines, his on-ice development has progressed at a slower pace. Though his role at Boston University has increased, his path to becoming a professional player remains long. Celebrini’s dedication to improvement is evident, and his right-shot profile slightly ups the ante, but he’s viewed as a project prospect.
Hugo Gabrielson
Team: Nybro Vikings IF | Age: 22 | Position: Defence | Height: 6’1 | Weight: 172 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Sixth round, 169 overall, 2021
Now a 22-year-old defenceman, Hugo Gabrielson has earned an honourable mention thanks to his offensive surge in the Allsvenskan league. His point production and all-situations role have been commendable. However, with his rights expiring this summer, his future with the organization is uncertain.
Basile Sansonnens
Team: Rimouski Océanic | Age: 18 | Position: Defence | Height: 6’4 | Weight: 205 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Seventh round, 221 overall, 2024
Basile Sansonnens, a recent seventh-round pick, presents an intriguing long-term project. His towering 6-foot-4 frame and shutdown defensive abilities are promising, especially at his young age. His transition to the QMJHL has been smooth, and while his offensive upside is limited, his defensive foundation and penalty-killing skills are notable. We should see him back at the World Junior stage next Christmas for the Swiss.
Ty Glover
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 24 | Position: Left Wing | Height: 6’3 | Weight: 201 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Undrafted
An undrafted prospect, Ty Glover has impressed with his relentless work ethic. Despite his position in the depth chart, Glover consistently delivers energy and effort, embodying a “Tocchet-type” player. While the opportunity may never present itself, his dedication and physical play make him an easy prospect to root for.

Top 20 Prospects

20. Lucas Forsell:
Team: Färjestad BK | Age: 21 | Position: Right Wing | Height: 6’0 | Weight: 161 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Seventh round, 201 overall, 20201 | Last year’s rank: Honourable mention
Lucas Forsell is a high-motor, energetic forward who never gives up on a play. Despite limited ice time in the SHL, he’s shown flashes of offensive potential and a strong work ethic. However, his production has stagnated, and the clock is ticking for him to prove he can take that next step before transitioning to North America. The Canucks must decide whether to sign him before he becomes a free agent this summer. His relentless style and nose for the net could make him a valuable bottom-six energy player if he does come over.
19. Jett Woo:
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 24 | Position: Defender | Height: 6’0 | Weight: 205 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Second round, 37 overall, 2018 | Last year’s rank: 19th
A former second-round pick, Jett Woo has had a rollercoaster of a development path. After a strong showing last year when he earned his first call-up(s) to Vancouver, his momentum has stalled. He remains a valuable presence in Abbotsford, playing a physical shutdown role while leading the team in ice time. However, his offensive production has dipped, and many prospects continue to block his path to the NHL. His future with the Canucks remains uncertain as he plays out the remaining months of his current contract.
18. Parker Alcos:
Team: Edmonton Oil Kings | Age: 18 | Position: Defender | Height: 6’3″ | Weight: 181 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Sixth round, 189 overall, 2024 | Last year’s rank: Honourable Mention
Parker Alcos, a towering right-shot defender, has steadily improved throughout his draft-plus-one season. Initially, he struggled, but his game has rounded out, and he’s now playing top-four minutes and contributing on special teams. His mobility for his size is impressive, and he uses his physicality effectively in his own end. While still raw, Alcos has the potential to be a shutdown defenseman who can move the puck. He’s a project, but his development is trending in the right direction.
17. Josh Bloom:
Team: Kalamazoo Wings | Age: 21 | Position: Left Wing | Height: 6’2″ | Weight: 185 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Round three, 95 overall, 2021 (Buffalo Sabres) | Last year’s rank: 15
Josh Bloom found a home in the ECHL after a turbulent season that saw him play at three different levels in 2023-24 (AHL, ECHL and OHL). He’s showcasing his offensive skills and speed with Kalamazoo, playing a key role and putting up decent numbers. His relentless effort and nose for the net define Bloom’s game. He’s unafraid to get to the dirty areas and battle for pucks. While his development has hit some snags, he’s still young and shows the potential to be an energy player with some scoring touch at the pro level.
16. Aku Koskenvuo:
Team: Harvard University | Age: 21 | Position: Goalie | Height: 6’4″ | Weight: 201 lbs | Catches: Left | Drafted: Fifth round, 137 overall, 2021 | Last year’s rank: 18
The towering Finnish goaltender has faced a challenging season at Harvard. Despite starting the year as the undisputed number one, Aku Koskenvuo struggled to maintain that position and is now splitting starts. While his record and save percentage may not be eye-catching, his play has been slightly better than advertised on a weaker Harvard team. He’s athletic, covers the net well, and has a good relationship with the Canucks’ goaltending coach. However, the crowded crease in Vancouver presents a significant obstacle. Whether he’ll turn pro or continue his development in the NCAA remains to be seen.
15. Ty Young:
Team: Kalamazoo Wings | Age: 20 | Position: Goalie | Height: 6’3 | Weight: 183 lbs | Catches: Left | Drafted: Fifth round, 144 overall, 2022 | Last year’s rank: Unranked
Ty Young has been a revelation this season. After a shaky start to his junior career, he’s turned things around dramatically, putting up impressive numbers in both the AHL and ECHL. He’s a project who’s quickly blossoming, and while the Canucks’ crease is crowded, he’s making a strong case for a future role. His athleticism and ability to adapt to the pro level have been commendable.
14. Danila Klimovich:
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 22 | Position: Right Wing | Height: 6’2″ | Weight: 203 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Second round, 41 overall, 2021 | Last year’s rank: 16
Danila Klimovich is a bit of an enigma. He’s a sharpshooter with a nose for the net, but inconsistency and questionable decision-making have plagued his development. This season, however, he’s seen an increase in ice time and a resurgence in his offensive production. He’s playing with more engagement and showing flashes of his high-end potential. The key for Klimovich will be finding consistency and improving his all-around game. If he can do that, he still has the potential to be a top-six scoring threat. But the clock is ticking, and he needs to prove he can translate his skills to the NHL level.
13. Nikita Tolopilo:
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 24 | Position: Goalie | Height: 6’6″ | Weight: 229 lbs | Catches: Left | Drafted: Undrafted | Last year’s rank: 20
The towering Belarusian has been a reliable and consistent presence for the Abbotsford Canucks. Nikita Tolopilo has proven to be a valuable asset, arguably the more consistent between the pipes down in Abbotsford. His calm and composed style has translated well to North America. However, the Canucks’ crowded goaltending depth chart presents a significant challenge. As he approaches 25, the clock is ticking for him to earn an NHL opportunity. He has the potential to be a reliable backup, but his future with the organization may depend on whether he sees a clear path to the NHL.
12. Cole McWard:
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 23 | Position: Defence | Height: 6’1 | Weight: 192 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Undrafted | Last year’s rank: 14
Cole McWard is the epitome of a steady and reliable defenseman. He may not be flashy, but he’s effective in virtually every situation. He’s a smart, puck-moving defenseman who can play in all situations and quietly put up a career year offensively. While he may not be an offensive dynamo, his strength lies in his dependability and versatility. With his strong two-way play and ability to fill any role, he could be a valuable call-up option for the Canucks in the future.
11. Ty Mueller:
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 21 | Position: Centre/Left Wing | Height: 5’11″ | Weight: 185 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Fourth round, 105 overall, 2023 | Last year’s rank: 17
Ty Mueller has been a standout prospect this season, quickly rising up the ranks. He’s a versatile forward who excels in all situations, showcasing a responsible two-way game and surprising offensive upside. Mueller has earned the trust of Abbotsford’s coaching staff, playing key minutes at even strength and on special teams. While he may not be the flashiest player, his ability to play center or wing, contribute offensively, and be a shutdown player makes him a valuable asset. He has the potential to be a reliable bottom-nine forward who can chip in offensively.
10. Anthony Romani:
Team: Barrie Colts | Age: 19 | Position: Right Wing | Height: 6’1″ | Weight: 190 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Sixth round, 162 overall, 2024 | Last year’s rank: 10
A true boom-or-bust prospect with a lethal shot and impressive offensive instincts. Anthony Romani burst onto the scene last year with a 58-goal, 111-point season, but concerns linger about his skating and defensive play. Unfortunately, a broken clavicle has hampered his draft-plus-one season, potentially staling his developmental timeline. If he can overcome these hurdles and translate his offensive prowess to the pro level, he has the potential to be a dynamic scorer.
9. Riley Patterson:
Team: Barrie Colts | Age: 18 | Position: Right Wing/Centre | Height: 6’1 | Weight: 182 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Fourth round, 125 overall, 2024 | Last year’s rank: 12
Riley Patterson has emerged as a versatile forward with a strong two-way game and a knack for putting up points. Patterson has been a consistent offensive contributor in the OHL, leading his team in scoring and demonstrating a well-rounded skill set. He’s not afraid to go to the dirty areas and battle for pucks. While he may not be the fastest skater, his overall game and ability to play in various roles are valuable assets. He has the potential to be a valuable middle-six forward who can contribute in all situations.
8. Vilmer Alriksson:
Team: Brampton Steelheads | Age: 19 | Position: Left Wing | Height: 6’6″ | Weight: 234 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Fourth round, 107 overall, 2023 | Last year’s rank: 11
Vilmer Alriksson is a physically imposing power forward with a unique blend of size, skill, and tenacity. He’s a force on the ice, using his 6-foot-6 frame to win battles and create space. Alriksson has already impressed at Canucks’ training camp, earning an entry-level contract. He’s a strong skater for his size and possesses soft hands in tight. While his offensive production may not be elite, his physical dominance and ability to win puck battles make him a valuable prospect. He has the potential to be a top-nine power forward who can contribute offensively and bring a physical presence to the lineup.
7. Arshdeep Bains:
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 24 | Position: Left Wing | Height: 6’0″ | Weight: 183 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Undrafted | Last year’s rank: 6
Arshdeep Bains is a skilled and energetic forward who has already tasted NHL action, even scoring his first goal. While his NHL stints haven’t been overly impressive, he’s been a consistent producer and leader in the AHL. Bains plays with a mix of skill and tenacity, contributing offensively and providing energy on the forecheck. He’s a versatile player who can adapt to different roles. The key for him will be translating his AHL success to the NHL level. He needs to adjust to the increased pace and physicality. If he can do that, he has the potential to be a valuable two-way contributor in a middle-six role.
6. Victor Mancini:
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 22 | Position: Defence | Height: 6’3″ | Weight: 229 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: Fifth round, 159 overall, 2022| Last year’s rank: Unranked
Victor Mancini, acquired in the JT Miller trade, has quickly become a prospect of interest for Canucks fans. He’s a big, physical defenceman who plays a simple, effective game. He’s not afraid to throw his weight around and block shots. While his offensive upside may be limited, his defensive presence and physicality are valuable assets. He has the potential to be a solid bottom-pairing defender who can clear the crease and be a reliable presence in his own end.
5. Sawyer Mynio:
Team: Calgary Hitmen | Age: 19 | Position: Defence | Height: 6’1″ | Weight: 181 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Third round, 89 overall, 2023 | Last year’s rank: 8
Sawyer Mynio has blossomed into a promising two-way defenseman. He’s a competitive player with a strong offensive game, which is evident in his impressive point totals in the WHL. Mynio is a smooth skater with a booming shot and is not afraid to play a physical game. He’s also a valuable penalty killer. While his offensive numbers may dip as he transitions to the pro level, his well-rounded game and competitive nature suggest he has the potential to be a reliable bottom-four defenseman with some offensive upside. He could join Abbotsford soon and will be one to watch in the future.
4. Kirill Kudryavtsev
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 21 | Position: Defence | Height: 5’11″ | Weight: 201 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Seventh round, 208 overall, 2022 | Last year’s rank: 7
Kirill Kudryavtsev is proving to be a steal for the Canucks as a seventh-round pick. He’s a smart, versatile defenseman who has seamlessly transitioned to the pro level. Kudryavtsev may not have any standout skills, but his hockey IQ, competitiveness, and adaptability have allowed him to excel. He’s quickly earned a role in all situations for Abbotsford, playing big minutes and contributing offensively. His vision and puck-moving skills are evident in his impressive point totals. While he may not be a flashy player, his well-rounded game and consistent development make him a promising prospect. He could be knocking on the NHL’s door sooner than expected.
3. Elias Pettersson
Team: Abbotsford Canucks | Age: 21 | Position: Defence | Height: 6’3″ | Weight: 209 lbs | Shoots: Left | Drafted: Third round, 80 overall, 2022 | Last year’s rank: 4
Elias Pettersson is a physical, two-way stalwart who has quickly become a fan favourite. His aggressive, “meat-and-potatoes” style and smooth transition game have impressed at every level. He’s already made his NHL debut and is currently exceeding expectations. With his strong defensive play and developing offensive skills, he has the potential to be an everyday shutdown rearguard and penalty killer in the NHL. Pettersson is a strong skater who can contribute offensively and is not afraid to throw his weight around. He’s a valuable addition to the Canucks’ prospect pool and could be a key part of their blue line in the future.
2. Tom Willander:
Team: Boston University | Age: 20 | Position: Defence | Height: 6’1 | Weight: 179 lbs | Shoots: Right | Drafted: First round, 11 overall, 2023 | Last year’s rank: 2

Willander’s strengths lie in his defensive awareness, physicality, and ability to shut down opponents. He has the potential to be a top-four, two-way defenseman in the NHL, capable of playing against top competition and contributing on special teams. With his Entry-Level deal expected this spring, the question is where he’ll play out the remainder of his 2024-25 season. Abbotsford or Vancouver?

Lekkerimäki has diversified his scoring ability, showcasing his willingness to go to the net while still possessing a deadly release. He’s already had a taste of the NHL, and while he’s still adjusting to the North American style, his offensive upside is undeniable. He’s a player who can create scoring chances from anywhere on the ice and has the potential to be a game-breaker at the NHL level.
