The Vancouver Canucks improved to 7-2 over their last nine games with Friday night’s series-clinching win over the St. Louis Blues. The Canucks hope to keep things rolling on Sunday night when they take on the Vegas Golden Knights in Edmonton.
Vancouver is a +165 underdog on the NHL odds for Game 1 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Vegas (-190) is 4-0-1 in its last five games against the Canucks.
Canucks vs Golden Knights | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Canucks were outshot 36 to 25 in Game 6 against the Blues, but the result of the game never felt in doubt. Jay Beagle scored the game’s first goal just 3:45 into the first period, and the floodgates opened in the second period with three more Vancouver goals in just over eight minutes of play. Jordan Binnington was chased out of the game after allowing four goals on only 18 shots and Jacob Markstrom stood tall with 34 saves on 36 shots to help the Canucks seal their first best-of-seven postseason series win since 2011.
Now the Canucks will be tasked with trying to solve the Golden Knights. Since Vegas entered the league, the Canucks are just 2-8 on the moneyline against the Golden Knights per the OddsShark NHL Database.
No team has been more consistently impressive in the NHL bubble than the Golden Knights have been so far. Vegas earned the Western Conference’s top seed with a 3-0 record against the conference’s other top three teams and took care of the Chicago Blackhawks in five games. The Golden Knights are averaging 3.75 goals per game in their eight games since the league returned to action with four goals or more in all but two of those games.
Sunday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at sports betting sites. The OVER is 3-0 in the last three meetings between the Canucks and the Golden Knights.
This series should be a blast to watch. Only the Colorado Avalanche with 3.78 goals per game are averaging more goals this postseason than the Golden Knights and the Canucks (who have 3.4 goals per game). The two regular season games between Vancouver and Vegas each yielded nine goals with Vegas winning at home 6-3 and Vancouver winning at home 5-4. There may be a feeling out process in Game 1, but expect plenty of fireworks as the series progresses.
