Canucks Player Power Rankings – October 12th

Oct 12, 2015, 12:00 EDTUpdated:

The regular season is here and with it comes another installment of our player power rankings! We’ve got youth! We’ve got vintage Sedins! We’ve got a lot of guys with more points than Connor McDavid!
1. Jared McCann:
Jared “McJesus” McCann Power Rankings:
1. That shot
2. That celebration
3. The fact that he has more points than Connor McDavid
4. The fact that he has as many points as Connor McDavid and literally all of his teammates:

2. Henrik Sedin:
Henrik Sedin is out here looking like 2010 Daniel Sedin with this stuff.
And 2010 Henrik Sedin for that matter:
3. Daniel Sedin:
Daniel has played two excellent games of hockey. More importantly, he’s doing this:
4. Ryan Miller:
Miller has looked very sharp to start the season, something the Canucks will need if Richard Bachman will be donning the baseball cap for the next couple of weeks.
5. Ben Hutton:
Ben Hutton is sort of a dream to watch at the offensive blueline. He defines “risky but fun” and I don’t think anyone, except perhaps Frank Corrado, is complaining.
6. Bo Horvat:
Babe with the powerplay goal! Bowie has looked very good in the first two games of the season.
7. Chris Tanev:
Without partner Alex Edler on Saturday night, Tanev needed to find a new friend to babysit. NCAA pals forever.
8. Jannik Hansen:
Hansen set-up Jared McCann’s first goal and let go with a somewhat unexpected by very effective slapshot to score the first goal of the Canucks season.
9. Alex Edler:
Edler was too sick to play in Saturday’s home opener, but his absence was very noticeable. He was there in spirit, though, appearing on the jumbotron in what looks like a promo for an upcoming CTV crime show:

10. Radim Vrbata:
Vrbata has gone from riding shotgun with the Sedins to backseat driving as Baertschi and Horvat take on the highway for the very first time.
11. Alex Burrows:
The ever versatile Alex Burrows has found an unlikely replacement for Henrik and Daniel Sedin: Dennis Wideman.
12. Brandon Sutter:
After scoring a super cool goal in the season opener, Sutter played goat in 3-on-3 when he lost the puck before he could escape the zone, leading to Gaudreau’s OT winner. The good was pretty good though:
13. Sven Baertschi:
Baertschi, along with linemates Vrbata and Horvat, has been a definite positive so far for the team. He and Hutton got the assists on Horvat’s first. #Youth.
14. Dan Hamhuis:
There is almost definitely an alternate universe where Dan Hamhuis is the world’s best youth pastor. What a kind guy.
15. Matt Bartkowski:
Bartkowski is a fast man who had some good times and some bad times over the course of the first two games. The worst was this chaotic and painful collision with Hamhuis that lead to the Flames’ tying goal.
16. Brandon Prust:
Prust picked up his first point in a Canucks uniform and fought a bunch.
17. Yannick Weber:
Despite probably being the team’s best powerplay option on the blueline, Weber sat out the first game and only drew into the lineup on Saturday due to Edler’s illness.
18. Derek Dorsett:
Dorsett has the edge in the battle for the team lead in PIMs so far with 17, two more than Prust’s 15.
19. Luca Sbisa:
Sbisa’s just.. being Sbisa.
20. Adam Cracknell:
Adam Cracknell got to suit up in front of his hometown this weekend, which is very nice for him! He also poured water into his pants.
21. Richard Bachman:
The latest goalie to join the ever-dramatic Canucks goal crease. Bachman did not leave the bench this week.
22. Jake Virtanen:
I hope Willie and Jim sit together in a board room asking each other what Virtanen’s strengths and weaknesses are before deciding that he’s just not ready to crack the line-up. Nice hair though.

23. Jacob Markstrom:
A bad week for Jakes overall. The taller Jake will likely miss three weeks after injuring his hamstring in practice.
24. Chris Higgins:
NHL Chris Higgins will likely miss another 4-6 weeks after blocking a shot in Hockeyville.
In the meantime, let’s keep watching EIHL Chris Higgins do this:
A 4pt weekend is pretty awesome but I think this from @ChrisHiggins10 has to be the cherry on top. #BelfastDatsyuk pic.twitter.com/TUOuv7yuRx— Allan Price (@AllanGWPrice) September 13, 2015
