Canucks Player Power Rankings – January 23rd, 2017

Jan 23, 2017, 13:00 ESTUpdated:

The potentially playoff-bound Canucks played three close games this week and won two of them. Along the way, the boys hit milestones, Aaron Ekblad, and each other’s heads. Read on to find out how they all stack up:
1. Henrik Sedin:
Well, duh. Henrik Sedin became the first player in Canucks history to record 1000 points with the club and did so with a lovely goal set up by his brother Daniel (a twist on a classic play). This moment was so great for so many reasons – Countrymen Edler and Daniel getting to be the first to hug Henrik, Burrows and the rest of the team rushing off the bench to congratulate their captain (something that Henrik said was maybe his favourite moment as a Canuck), Luongo congratulating Henrik for scoring on him. It was all wonderful. Sometimes hockey is really, really fun.
2. Bo Horvat:
Henrik Sedin may have scored the most memorable goal of the week, but Bo Horvat definitely scored the prettiest one. Hopefully Michael Kempny’s ego and ankles will recover.
3. Luca Sbisa:
Not only did Luca Sbisa net the GWG on Friday night, he scored a kid a dinosaur along the way! Weiner dogs seem beyond tame now.
4. Daniel Sedin:
Daniel Sedin had a lot to do with Henrik Sedin reaching 1000 points and he deserves some credit for that. But it’s more fun to laugh at him for being the lesser twin.
5. Troy Stecher:
Can our boy Troy single-handedly save the Canucks power play? Probably not. But we love watching him try.
6. Nikita Tryamkin:
Nikita Tryamkin had a roller coaster of a week. He played his best game as a Canuck against Nashville. He also smoked Bo Horvat in the head with a slapshot. He struggled in Chicago, but then had a sweet moment with Alex Edler on the bench. There’s no such thing as too much Tryamkin content.
7. Alex Edler:
Alex Edler has been logging heavy minutes and keeping the Canucks blueline as steady as possible, but the best part of his week was probably being called a “special guy” by Henrik Sedin. What an honour.

8. Ryan Miller:
This week did not end perfectly for Ryan Miller, but in the grand scheme of things he’s been doing pretty okay.
9. Chris Tanev and his pal Owen:
Nice guy Chris Tanev took his teammates along to surprise his friend Owen and the Cloverdale Wildcats this week. Hometown Hockey’s feature on Owen and his determination to keep playing hockey is well worth a watch.

10. Alex Burrows:
Alex Burrows may have been more excited about Henrik Sedin’s 1000th point than Henrik himself. Burrows was the first Canuck off of the bench to congratulate the captain and the first to hug him in the locker room post-game. We can all relate to how much Alex Burrows loves those twins.
11. Loui Eriksson:
Eriksson and the twins had a nice week together, despite the other Louie robbing him (making sure that Henrik’s 1000th point was not one of his usual assists).
12. Sven Baertschi:
The points weren’t there for Sven Baertschi this week, but the pushing was. Look at him go!
One of the more feisty shifts we’ve seen from Baertschi. Hits Ekblad and does a good job of getting in the high-traffic areas. #Canucks pic.twitter.com/N8tZdTaTBQ— Grady Sas (@GradySas) January 21, 2017
13. Brandon Sutter:
Brandon Sutter is great at drawing penalties. Unfortunately, that doesn’t matter a whole lot when the power play is as bad as the Canucks power play has been.
14. Markus Granlund:
Markus Granlund didn’t wow us on the ice this week, but he has officially established himself as the MacGyver of the 2016/17 Vancouver Canucks.

15. Jacob Markstrom:
Markstrom did not play this week, but he tweeted about how much he likes Henrik Sedin. Nice guy!
16. Jordan Subban and Ben Hutton:
Neither of these two played this week, but Jordan Subban is pretty happy to be up with the big club, and Ben Hutton is pretty happy that they’re both on TV.
17. Anton Rodin:
Anton Rodin hasn’t had a lot of good news recently, but it appears that Alex Edler really loves his new haircut, so at least he’s got that!

18. Alex Biega:
In my efforts to find something to say about Alex Biega, I noticed that his Twitter photo is absolutely adorable.

19. Brendan Gaunce:
One of these days, Brendan.
20. Michael Chaput and Jack Skille:
These guys played.
21. Jayson Megna:
Jayson Megna did not factor into Henrik’s milestone goal, but he will almost certainly go down as one of the captain’s most obscure linemates. Potentially even more so than Zac Dalpe.
22. The rest of the injured guys:
Gudbranson, Hansen, Larsen, and Dorsett didn’t play, weren’t on TV, and did not get haircuts (as far as we know).
23. Reid Boucher:
Reid Boucher played this week. I didn’t really notice, but he did that.
