Vancouver Canucks defencemen Tyler Myers and Ethan Bear captured gold with Team Canada at the 2023 IIHF World Championship with a 5–2 win over Team Germany on Sunday afternoon.

Myers logged 24:44 of ice time, second on the team behind only MacKenzie Weegar, and took two shots on goal in the win over Germany.
Bear did not dress for the gold medal game, which was held at 8:20 p.m. local time (10:20 a.m. in Vancouver) at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland.

St. Louis Blues forward Sammy Blais scored the winning goal for Team Canada at the 4:51 mark of the third period after the two teams battled to a 2–2 draw through 40 minutes. Blais had previously scored in the first period.
Arizona Coyotes forward Lawson Crouse, Calgary Flames forward (and Team Canada captain) Tyler Toffoli, and Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton also scored in the win. Montreal Canadiens goaltender Samuel Montembeault stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced on Sunday.
On the other side, Team Germany goaltender Mathias Niederberger turned aside 23 of the 27 shots he saw in the defeat. J. J. Peterka and Daniel Fischbuch tallied for the Germans, who led by 1–0 and 2–1 scores in the game.
Myers, 33, appeared in all 10 of Team Canada&#8217;s games at the tournament, scoring one goal. Bear, 25, dressed for eight games and was the only Canadian skater not to record a point.
Earlier on Sunday, Arturs Silovs and Team Latvia defeated Conor Garland and Team USA 4–3 in overtime to capture the bronze medal at the tournament. Silovs was also named tournament MVP after posting a 7–3–0 record and a .921 save percentage in 10 games.
Although Myers is still under contract with the Canucks through the end of the 2023–24 season, Bear is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights who will need to be re-signed this summer. The Regina product collected 16 points in 61 games with the Canucks in 2022–23 after being acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes in a mid-season trade.
