The Vancouver Canucks are 2-7 in their last nine road games against the Edmonton Oilers. The Canucks hope to buck that trend with a road win over the Oilers on Wednesday night.
Vancouver is a +115 road underdog on the NHL odds in Edmonton at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Jacob Markstrom is expected to be starting in goal for the Canucks while Edmonton (going off at -135 to win at home) hadn’t announced Mikko Koskinen or Mike Smith as its starting goalie as of early Wednesday morning.

Canucks at Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Canucks boast one of the most exciting young cores in the NHL including Elias Pettersson, Bo Horvat, Brock Boeser, and Quinn Hughes. If Vancouver’s young players can stay healthy and take another step forward in their development this season, and the defence plays better with Hughes as a full-timer and free agent signings Tyler Myers and Jordie Benn, a playoff spot isn’t out of the question. Expectations are cautiously optimistic heading into the 2019/20 season.
In their last 14 road games of 2019, the Canucks went 3-11 per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Connor McDavid could be the best player of this generation, but his talents have been going to waste in Edmonton. Since making the playoffs in 2016/17, the Oilers have missed the postseason in each of the last two seasons despite McDavid’s 82 goals and 142 assists over that stretch. The hope is that new head coach Dave Tippett and a Milan Lucic for James Neal swap can provide a spark in Edmonton, but only time will tell. The Oilers are 6-9 in their last 15 games as home favourites.
Wednesday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 5-1-2 in the last eight games between the Oilers and Canucks. Vancouver also ended the regular season with four straight road losses to Pacific Division rivals.
Both of these teams enter the 2019/20 season with hopes of returning to the playoffs, though there’s a lot more pressure on the Oilers to do so. Vancouver is committed to rebuilding the right way in the post-Sedin era. But if this group can speed up the process and get ahead of schedule with big strides in their development, Canucks fans won’t complain.
