After stepping into the spotlight during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Vancouver Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs has found his way back there this summer.
The 23-year-old recently posted a few photos to his Instagram while signing a new brand partnership with a Porsche dealer in Latvia. He added a review of the newest available Porsche ‘Taycan’ and shared his excitement about the deal.
“After the end of the ‘electric’ NHL ‘play-off’ season, returning to Latvia, I had the opportunity to test and enjoy the new, fully electric Porsche Taycan,” he said in an Instagram caption (translated to English.)
But what will likely catch the attention of most Canucks fans is not the deal or even the fancy ride. No, it is in fact the shirt he was wearing while all of this went down. The shirt, a pink paisley tee from Hugo, became infamous when teammate J.T. Miller draped it over his pads for a short stint during a playoff practice last spring.
Hilariously, many Canucks fans found the shirt for purchase online during the playoffs. They bought it until the item was fully sold out, and the Canucks even rolled out their own take on the shirt at the team store.
Silovs quickly became a fan favourite, stepping into playoff action due to injuries to both starter Thatcher Demko and backup Casey DeSmith. He responded by going 2-1 in the Canucks’ first-round series against the Nashville Predators.
In Game 6, he shut out the Predators to earn the Canucks a spot in the second round while becoming the youngest player in Canucks history to record a playoff shutout. Prior to Game 4 against Nashville, Silovs had played in only nine NHL games, none in the postseason. He bested that number, going 5-5 with a .898 save percentage in 10 playoff starts before the Canucks were eventually eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the second round.
In case any Canucks fans happen to forget about the incredible and hilarious playoff action from the Latvian netminder, he has quickly reminded them.
