A team out east seems to have a significant interest in a pending unrestricted free agent.
According to James Murphy from RG, the Boston Bruins are among the several teams interested in Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.
Boeser, after having spent the first nine seasons of his NHL career with the Canucks, is set to become a UFA on July 1. The Burnsville, Minnesota native is receiving plenty of interest from around the league, including the Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Utah Mammoth and Montreal Canadiens.
Murphy says the Bruins have been interested in Boeser for quite some time. Per his report, the team was willing to pursue him prior to the trade deadline this past season, as well as a couple of times before that.
“The Bruins went hard for him last summer and even before that,” a source told Murphy. “They tried again at the NHL Trade Deadline but then decided to be sellers instead. They were looking at him again, but then things went south fast, and they were sellers. They like him a lot and will go after him.”
Bruins general manager Don Sweeney had a chance to select Boeser a decade ago but elected to pass on him at the 2015 NHL Draft, opting instead to pick Jakub Zboril, Jake DeBrusk, and Zachary Senyshyn (all in the first round), before the Canucks chose Boeser with the 23rd pick in the draft.
Boeser would provide some offensive punch to a Bruins team that has lost many of its mainstays in recent years, including the likes of Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. Last season, Boeser proved he can still be a notable goal-scorer, potting 40 goals during the 2023-24 campaign. He followed that up with 25 goals and 50 points this past year, marking the fifth time in the 28-year-old’s career that he hit the 50-point mark.
In 554 NHL appearances, Boeser has scored 204 goals and 230 assists for 434 points. He’s notched 23 points in 29 Stanley Cup Playoff games as well.
Boeser is at the end of a three-year contract that he signed in July 2022. The deal carried a $6.65 million. According to CapWages, the Bruins have a little over $20 million in cap space for the 2025-26 season.
