The Canucks fell to 4-8-2 over their last 14 games with their fourth straight regulation loss on Wednesday night, losing an important divisional matchup against the Arizona Coyotes at home. Vancouver has now allowed at least three goals in each of its last eight games and has allowed four or more goals in each of its last four games. The team enters Friday night’s action tied in points with the Nashville Predators, Winnipeg Jets, and Arizona Coyotes as all four teams are battling for a wild card spot in the Western Conference.
In their last seven games as a betting underdog at home, the Canucks are 7-0-0 per the OddsShark NHL Database. Vancouver most recently defeated Boston 9-3 as a +125 home underdog last month.
Colorado had a seven-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The Avalanche did pick up a point in that game however to extend their point streak to nine games, and since January 16, Colorado has been one of the league’s hottest teams boasting a 15-3-2 record over its last 20 games. Pavel Francouz has been excellent in relief of the injured Philipp Grubauer and may have played his way into a permanent starting role with a 19-5-4 record, a 2.29 goals-against average, and a .927 save percentage on the season.
Friday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 7-1 in Colorado’s last eight games.
Vancouver’s grasp on a playoff spot is slipping away. There is still time to right the ship over the last 16 games of the regular season, but the Canucks need to start stringing some wins together sooner rather than later. A victory against a team of Colorado’s caliber could help to turn the tides.
