The Vancouver Canucks snapped a five-game losing streak against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 3-1 victory on Thursday night. The Canucks have now won two of their last three games and will try to earn another win on Saturday night against the Maple Leafs.
Vancouver is a +160 home underdog on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Toronto opened as a -155 favourite but has received enough betting action to move to -180.
Maple Leafs vs Canucks | OddsShark Matchup Report
Jake Virtanen scored a pair of goals and Bo Horvat scored one in Vancouver’s surprising 3-1 win on Thursday over the Maple Leafs. Thatcher Demko made 31 stops in the win and improved to 2-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .983 save percentage thus far in the month of March. Elias Pettersson was a late scratch on Thursday with an upper body injury and is listed as questionable to return for Saturday’s game.
The Canucks have been considerably better at home than they have on the road this season. Vancouver is now 6-6-2 at home and 4-9-0 on the road.
After scoring 13 goals over their previous three games, the Maple Leafs couldn’t get their offense going against the Canucks. This was far different from their last three-game set against Toronto when the Maple Leafs racked up 15 total goals. The 18-5-2 Maple Leafs haven’t lost often this season; when they have, they’ve bounced back well with a 5-0-1 record in their last six games coming off a loss. Toronto’s loss on Thursday was just its second regulation loss on the road this season.
Saturday night’s total is set at 6.5 goals at sports betting sites. The UNDER is now 10-1 in the last 11 games between Toronto and Vancouver.
Beating the best team in the North Division in regulation could be exactly the type of win that sparks some much-needed momentum in Vancouver. On the other hand, it could just be a frustrating anomaly as so many of the Canucks’ previous strong efforts have been this year. Saturday’s effort will be an important one in trying to get this season back on track.
