Jets vs Canucks | OddsShark Matchup Report
Thatcher Demko was strong in net for the Canucks on Friday night as he allowed only one goal on 30 shots against. Vancouver’s goaltenders have now allowed one goal or less in three of their last four games, which is no small feat for a tandem that allowed 4.67 goals per game through the first six games of February. But unfortunately for the Canucks, there isn’t much time for moral victories; a 2-0 regulation loss is just another step in the wrong direction as the Jets are now four points ahead of Vancouver in the North with four games in hand.
Since opening the season with a 6-5-0 record, Vancouver is just 2-7-1 over its last 10 games per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Mark Scheifele’s first period breakaway goal was the only shot the Jets could get past a red-hot Demko, but it turned out to be all they needed. Laurent Brossoit was fantastic in goal in stopping all 29 of the shots he faced to earn his second career shutout. Brossoit now owns a 3-1-0 record with a 2.24 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage as Connor Hellebuyck’s backup. Winnipeg is 5-0 in its last five road games against Vancouver.
Sunday night’s total is set at six goals at online sports betting sites The UNDER is 5-0 in Vancouver’s last five games against Winnipeg.
The Canucks wrap up this two-game set against the Jets on Sunday and will have another one right around the corner with a back-to-back in Winnipeg scheduled for March 1 and March 2. Vancouver needs to take advantage of its improved play in the defensive zone of late by stringing some wins together sooner rather than later.
