The Vancouver Canucks have won each of their last two games against the Minnesota Wild and are now just one win away from picking up their first postseason series win since the 2010/11 season. The Canucks will try to close out the series on Friday night with a third straight victory over Minnesota.
Vancouver is a +110 underdog on the NHL odds for Game 4 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Wild are -130 favourites to stave off elimination and to force a Game 5.
Canucks vs Wild | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Canucks played their most complete game of the series on Thursday afternoon in a 3-0 win over the Wild. Jacob Markstrom stopped all 27 shots he faced and the Canucks won the special teams battle with two goals on seven power play attempts and a perfect 7-for-7 on penalty kills. Rookie Quinn Hughes assisted on all three of Vancouver’s goals and Elias Pettersson tallied a goal and an assist in the victory.
With their win as +105 underdogs in Game 3, the Canucks improved to 4-2 in their last six games as a betting underdog per the OddsShark NHL Database.
After three games against the Canucks, the Wild are still looking for their first 5-on-5 goal of the series against Jacob Markstrom. Minnesota had scored at least three goals in each of its last 13 games before Thursday’s shutout loss, and the power play that produced two goals in Game 1’s 3-0 win has suddenly gone 0-for-15 over the last two games in the series. Can the Wild get back in rhythm in time to extend this series?
Friday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at betting sites. The OVER is 10-4 in Vancouver’s last 14 games overall.
The team that has scored the first goal has gone on to control the tempo for the rest of the game in all three of the games in this series so far. This will be an interesting test for the young Canucks; the last win of the series is always the hardest one to get, and Game 4 marks the first time since 2011 that Vancouver has had the chance to eliminate an opposing team in the playoffs. Minnesota has no choice but to bring its best effort, and the Canucks need to be ready for that intensity.
