Not too many people were blaming Jacob Markstrom for the 3-1 hole that the Canucks found themselves in at the end of Game 4, but there’s no question that Thatcher Demko is the reason Vancouver is playing in Game 7 on Friday night. Demko stopped 42 shots in Vancouver’s 2-1 win in Game 5 and followed that up with a 48-save shutout in Thursday night’s 4-0 victory in Game 6. The Canucks were outshot 48 to 23 but still found a way to squeak out the win and stay alive.
The Canucks are 10-5 over their last 15 games heading into this Game 7 matchup per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Vegas had a 43 to 17 shot advantage in Game 5 and has now outshot the Canucks 91 to 40 over the last two games of this series. Head coach Peter DeBoer told the media that there was no place for frustration and that his team would just have to get the job done in Game 7; but it has to be difficult not to be frustrated with this stunning turn of events. The Golden Knights will have to hope that Demko suffers from some fatigue and looks human on the second night of a back-to-back Friday.
Friday night’s total is set at six goals at online sports betting sites. The UNDER is 3-1 in the last four games of this series.
What a difference a red-hot goalie can make. The Canucks are suddenly just one more win away from pulling off a huge comeback despite being outplayed for the majority of the series. The first goal on Friday will be critical; a Vegas goal would help the Golden Knights settle in and regain some confidence while a Vancouver goal with Demko standing tall in net could give the Canucks the edge they need to close this out.
