Thatcher Demko was brilliant in goal again on Monday as he stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced in regulation and overtime and all three of the shots he faced in the shootout to lead Vancouver to a 2-1 victory. Demko is now a perfect 4-0-0 with a 0.98 goals-against average and a .969 save percentage through four starts in March. Bo Horvat extended his point streak to three straight games with an assist in the win and also recorded the only goal scored in the shootout.
The Canucks are now 3-2 in their last five games against the Canadiens since going 0-10 on the moneyline in their previous 10 games against them per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Carey Price played well on Monday allowing only one goal on 29 shots, but in the end he was outdueled by Demko in the shootout. Montreal has now lost seven of its last nine games, but five of those seven losses have come in overtime or the shootout. The Canadiens lead the league in overtime losses with seven, and those extra points are a big reason why Montreal is currently sitting above Vancouver and the Calgary Flames in the standings in the North Division at 11-6-7.
Wednesday night’s total is set at six goals at online sports betting sites. The UNDER is 5-1 in Vancouver’s last six games.
Vancouver is finally providing its fans with some room for optimism this month. With Demko and the defense in front of him playing well, the Canucks suddenly look like a team capable of competing for a top-four spot in the North. They dug themselves a pretty big hole with their 8-14-2 start to the season, but there is still time left to dig out of it.
