Draft season is upon us! Vancouver’s local fans will be filling up Rogers Arena in a few weeks to see who the Canucks add to the system with their 10th-overall pick.
Over the next few weeks, everyone’s focus will be on which players the Canucks will draft and how they can continue to add to a fairly deep farm system with their later picks. We’ll be updating this post with interesting, relevant draft content from around the Nation Network, so keep an eye on this page.

Cam Kuom: Best skillsets of the 2019 draft
Which brings us to the 2019 NHL draft class. Today I will be laying out which eligible players rank among the best of their peers in the four aforementioned skills. Breaking down these four components, the following is what I search for (although not limited to) when evaluating each skill:
SKATING TOP-SPEED, EDGE WORK, FIRST-STEP, ELUSIVENESS, EXPLOSIVENESS, AGILITY, LATERAL MOVEMENT, ESCAPE-ABILITY, STRIDE, CHANGING GEARS WITH THE PUCK, BACKWARDS SKATING PLAYMAKING VISION, PASS EXECUTION, UNPREDICTABILITY, RECOGNIZING/CREATING SPACE PUCK SKILLS CREATIVITY, STICK-HANDLING, HAND-SPEED, DECEPTIVENESS, PUCK CONTROL, HANDLING THE PUCK IN-TIGHT SHOT ACCURACY, POWER/VELOCITY, RELEASE, SHOT VOLUME, PROFICIENCY IN SHOT TYPE (WRIST SHOT, SLAP SHOT, BACKHAND, BAD ANGLE, NET-FRONT, ETC.)
Ryan Pike: On trading away second-round picks
Through the first five drafts of his tenure (excluding 2019), Treliving’s Flames have made five picks in the second round. They’ve selected McDonald, Andersson, Kylington, Dube and Parsons. And compared to the moves Feaster and Sutter made with their second rounders, at least Treliving has managed to swap them for starting goaltenders and top four defensemen.
