It took a little longer than most fans hoped — including a change of scenery to a Pacific Division rival — but longtime Vancouver Canucks defenceman @Alex Edler finally scored the 100th National Hockey League goal of his career on Thursday evening.

Now playing for the Los Angeles Kings, Edler broke a career-long 80-game goalless drought late in the second period of his team’s game against the Calgary Flames.

The 35-year-old defenceman took a drop pass from Swedish countryman @Viktor Arvidsson at the top of the left circle before walking in and firing a wrist shot past former Canucks teammate and current Flames goaltender @Jacob Markstrom.

Arvidsson and @Philip Danault picked up the helpers on Edler’s 100th NHL goal, which came at the 18:11 mark of the second period. Here’s the video of the play, as posted to Twitter by the verified NHL account:

It initially appeared Edler may have finally hit the 100-goal plateau early in the first period of Thursday’s game. The Kings opened the scoring off a long-range shot by Edler that forward @Alex Iafallo managed to deflect before it found its way past Markstrom.

Thursday’s contest was Edler’s second two-point outing in his last three games. In 947 career games with the Canucks and Kings, he now has 100 goals and 319 assists.
