The Abbotsford Canucks will close out their home schedule this weekend, welcoming the Coachella Valley Firebirds for a two-game set at Rogers Forum.
The Firebirds arrive red-hot, having won eight of their last 10 games, and are pushing to secure home-ice advantage for the opening round of the AHL playoffs.
For Abbotsford, this matchup has historically been a tough out. The Canucks have yet to record a win against Coachella Valley this season (0-3-1-1) and hold just four wins in 21 all-time meetings (4-13-3-1).
Game One is set for Friday, April 3, with Game Two following Saturday night. Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m. PT.

Players to watch

Danila Klimovich continues to climb the franchise record books. After scoring his 66th and 67th career goals last weekend, he now sits alone in second place all-time, passing Sheldon Dries. He now sits just three goals shy of tying Linus Karlsson (70) for the franchise lead — with four needed to claim the record outright.
Arshdeep Bains is also closing in on history. Already the franchise leader in points, Bains now sits just two assists shy of tying Christian Wolanin for the all-time assist lead (109). Three helpers would give him sole possession of the record.
Another name to watch is Braden Birnie, who signed earlier this week and could make his AHL debut. The 24-year-old spent four seasons with the University of Alaska Fairbanks before beginning his pro career with the Rapid City Rush (ECHL). After nine games there, he has been brought to Abbotsford on a professional tryout. Since he’s on a tryout, he won’t be seen any time in Kalamazoo. If he is sent back, he will report to Rapid City. If he draws into the lineup, expect Birnie to slot into a bottom-six role as he adjusts to the AHL level.
We continue to watch Bennett Schimek closely, as he impresses on an AHL deal. After adding another primary assist and scoring his first professional goal last weekend, he will look to add to that impressive start to his career.

What’s next?

Following this weekend, the Canucks will wrap up their season with four straight road games.
That stretch begins next weekend with a two-game set against the Calgary Wranglers at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
