After his big week, Jim Benning made a case to be #1 on the Power Rankings, but Bo Horvat refuses to calm down and give up that top spot. Read on to see how the newest Canucks fared and to catch up on Jayson Megna, Michael Chaput, and the rest of the gang!
1. Bo Horvat:
Bo Horvat loves California. He hit a new career points high in San Jose (41), put up three assists in LA, and scored his twentieth goal of the season in Anaheim. That’s good for a bonus of $212K. Not bad. That A on his jersey stands for A reason to keep watching this team.
2. Sven Baertschi:
Sven Baertschi was cleared to play this week and play he did. He had two goals against LA, hitting a new career-high of 30 points. The Canucks are more fun when this guy is not concussed.
3. Nikolay Goldobin:
He’s been a Canucks for like three minutes, but Nikolay Goldobin looks like he’s ready to get Canucks fans on both sides of the tank debate out of their seats. Now we just need Willie D to not keep Nikolay seated so much.
4. Richard Bachman:
Richard Bachman played his first game since 2015 on Sunday night. Only one of Anaheim’s 44 shots made it past him, and that was good for a win. After the game, he spoke to Dan Murphy about how he cherishes the time he gets to spend in the NHL. He seems like such a nice man and he deserves this.
5. Markus Granlund:
That’s potential-20-goal-scorer Markus Granlund to you. I guess you could say the Canucks traded a Hunter for a sniper. Haha.
6. Ryan Miller:
Ryan Miller got to play the role of “the one that got away” in LA this week, and he played it very well.
7. Henrik Sedin:
Henrik Sedin scored the most Henrik Sedin-y goal this week when he tried to pass the puck and it ended up in the net.
8. Ben Hutton:
The best version of Ben Hutton is a happy Ben Hutton, so this bodes well.
9. Daniel Sedin:
This week’s award for Saddest Quote goes to Daniel Sedin.
10. Alex Edler:
Alex Edler is a very tired man who is playing well over twenty minutes a night and probably would not object to a few more Ben Hutton shifts.
11. Chris Tanev:
Chris Tanev continues to lead the league in greasiness/60. Also, he is very good at hockey.
12. Troy Stecher:
Troy Stecher already had two of the best nicknames on the team (“Tony Stretcher” and “Sparky”) so he really doesn’t need another great one. But Luca Sbisa giveth.
13. Brendan Gaunce:
Brendan Gaunce still hasn’t scored a goal, but he’s been playing very well. One of these days.
14. Joseph Cramarossa:
Joseph Cramarossa is pointless in his first three games as a Canuck, but he got a win against the team that waived him. Moral victories.
15. Luca Sbisa:
The most memorable moment of Luca Sbisa’s week was being personally victimized by Jarome Iginla. Ouch.
16. Brandon Sutter:
Brandon Sutter got one assist this week.
17. Nikita Tryamkin:
Nikita Tryamkin did not play this week – I think he’s still sick – but he gained a friend in Nikolay Goldobin. Nikita finally has a pal who speaks Russian! поздравления!
18. Michael Chaput:
Almost every week, I ask myself what Michael Chaput did and I come up with nothing, so I search his name on Twitter and pick a tweet to include. Here’s what we got this week.
19. Alex Biega:
Alex Biega played in three games this week and got an assist in one! Not a bad week for Biega.
20. Philip Larsen:
By being scratched this weekend, Philip Larsen has made sure that the Canucks will only send Edmonton a fifth round pick at this year’s draft. Go Phil!
21. Jayson Megna:
I’ve said this before – it’s not Jayson Megna’s fault that Willie Desjardins has some kind of unwavering trust in him, but jeez.
22. Reid Boucher:
Reid Boucher scored his first goal as a Canuck this week but no one saw because we were all refreshing Twitter, trying to find out what the Canucks got in exchange for Jannik Hansen. Reid was then dropped from the line-up for both of this weekend’s games. Poor Reid can’t catch a break.
23. Erik Gudbranson, Jacob Markstrom, Derek Dorsett , Anton Rodin, Jack Skille:
All of these guys are hurt and I feel bad for them, but not as bad as I feel for Loui Eriksson.
24. Loui Eriksson:
On Saturday night, Loui Eriksson had his first multipoint night since 2016. On Sunday evening, he was injured in the first period and didn’t return. He is probably cursed.
