40 times have the Vancouver Canucks played on their home ice at Rogers Arena this season. And just eight times have they left with a victory.
With five games left in their season — four of which will take place on the road — Tuesday night’s loss to the Vegas Golden Knights guaranteed that the 2025-26 Canucks will not reach double-digit home wins.
It’s been a disappointing season for the Canucks, who entered the campaign with hopes of being a playoff team and convincing captain Quinn Hughes to stick around. Instead, they were forced to trade Hughes and dive headfirst into a long-overdue rebuild. Make no mistake about it — the Canucks wanted to tank for the best odds at the 1st overall pick, and even accomplished that goal sooner than many thought they would.
It’s just a bit of a shame that only eight of their wins have come on home ice in front of paying customers, while the other 14 have come on the road (and that number could grow even more with four road games remaining).

When’s the last time the Canucks failed to reach double-digit home wins?

The short answer is: Never.
The Canucks’ previous record for the fewest home-ice wins in a season was 10, a mark they reached in the lockout-shortened 48-game 1994-95 NHL season. Over a full season, the fewest home-ice wins the Canucks have ever recorded is 13, which they achieved in back-to-back seasons, 1976-77 and 1977-78. The Canucks also amassed 14 home ice wins in their second NHL season back in 1971-72, which is also the last and only other time the Canucks have finished at the bottom of the NHL standings.
This year’s Canucks have lost 32 games on home ice (27 in regulation, five in overtime or shootout). The 71-72 Canucks lost 20 games, and tied five more. In 94-95, the Canucks lost eight games in regulation on home ice, with six overtime losses as well.

Who is the last NHL team to not hit 10 home ice wins?

The last NHL team to share in the misery the Canucks are feeling right now with regards to their home ice record is the 2022-23 San Jose Sharks, who finished with eight (and the Canucks still have a chance of finishing with nine). The real kicker there is that the Sharks didn’t even finish in last place that season, as their 16 overtime losses and 14 road wins narrowly pushed them ahead of the Ducks, Blue Jackets, and Blackhawks in the standings.
Before that — not including the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season or lockout-shortened 2012-13 season — you have to go all the way back to the 2002-03 NHL season to find that the Florida Panthers finished the season with a home record of 8-21-5-7. Just eight wins on home ice.
Imagine that!
