The first domino has fallen for the Vancouver Canucks during the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline week.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Canucks have sent Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars, pending a trade call.
Shortly after Dreger broke the news, his colleague Pierre LeBrun shared the details of the move.
In return for Myers, the Canucks acquire a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2029. To juice the return, the Canucks are retaining 50% of Myers’ contract for this year and next, making him a $1.5 million player for the Stars.
Details: Tyler Myers to Dallas for a 2nd Rd pick in '27 and a 4th RD pick in '29. Plus Vancouver is retaining 50 percent on remainder of Myers contract which makes him a $1.5-million player this year and next.
Following the Olympic break, the Canucks decided to sit Myers for trade-related reasons. In those games without Myers, the Canucks went 0-2-1, getting outscored 14-4 in those outings.
Myers, 36, has spent the past six-and-a-half seasons in Vancouver after signing a five-year, $30 million contract with an average annual value of $6 million. He had a full no movement clause in year one of the deal, a full no-trade clause in years two and three, and a modified no-trade clause in the final two seasons. Myers earned a three-year, $9 million extension with the Canucks in 2024.
His current contract includes a full no-movement clause for the first two years and a 12-team no-trade clause in the final year. The Detroit Red Wings were the team to offer a second-round pick for the player, which initially sparked the Myers trade rumours. As a Texas-born player, Dallas was a destination Myers desired to waive his trade protection to go to.
The right-shot defenceman goes to a Stars team that currently has Miro Hesikanen, a left-shot defenceman, playing on his off-side on the top pairing, with Nils Lundqvist and Ilya Lyubushkin operating the right side on the bottom two pairs. Dallas has been searching for a right-shot defenceman to bolster their lineup for some time now, and they are getting that in Myers.
With the added draft picks, the Canucks now have two second-round draft picks in 2027: the San Jose Sharks’ and the Dallas Stars’. They moved theirs to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Ilya Mikheyev cap-dump trade.
Throughout his six-and-a-half seasons, Myers’ 488 games played have him 31st all-time in games played by a Canuck. In those games, Myers scored 23 goals and 112 assists for 138 points.
