To this point, Tyler Myers’ name hasn’t come up much in Vancouver Canucks trade rumours.
It seemed that Myers, who has a young family and lives in BC year-round, would be one of the veterans that the Canucks elected to keep around. After all, the 36-year-old defenceman’s contract — a three-year deal worth $3 million annually that he signed ahead of the 2024-25 season — carries a full no-move clause. It would be a shock to absolutely nobody if Myers wanted to exercise that right and stay put in Vancouver.
As a result, other Canucks veterans, Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger, Conor Garland, Jake DeBrusk, and even Elias Pettersson, to name a few, have dominated most of the rumours and reports from NHL insiders.
But on Wednesday afternoon, ESPN and NHL Network insider Kevin Weekes took to X to report the following:
“I’m told [the] Canucks are fielding plenty of calls on D Myers and he could be on the move shortly,” Weekes wrote.
Myers turned 36 earlier this month and is in his seventh season with the Canucks. After initially signing a five-year $30 million contract in free agency with the Canucks back in 2019, Myers re-upped with the Canucks in 2024, signing on for three more years at the aforementioned price tag of $3 million annually. Myers enjoyed a resurgence of sorts under Rick Tocchet, and has proven to be a steady top four option capable of playing tough minutes. Like most Canucks defencemen, Myers has struggled this season from both an offensive and defensive perspective. Through 57 games this season, Myers has one goal and eight assists to go along with a plus-minus rating of -25.
Whether Myers is moved or not remains to be seen, and a willingness to waive his no-move clause for the right destination adds an interesting wrinkle to the Canucks’ outlook ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline, which is set for Friday, March 6th.
