If a team can add a physical bottom 6 forward like Kane, especially teams in the Western Conference will have all kinds of time for that. -@DarrenDreger on the #canucks moving Evander Kane before the deadline. Presented by @bet365ca | #NeverOrdinary #bet365 Show more

The 2026 Men’s Hockey Olympic Tournament has come and gone, and the NHL trade freeze has officially been lifted. This means that the rumours surrounding Vancouver Canucks players have picked back up.
TSN’s Darren Dreger joined Sekeres and Price for his Monday hit and provided an update on Evander Kane:
“There’s been lots of tire kicking, there was leading up to February 4 (the start of the Olympic roster freeze). But now you come out of the Olympic break, and you know you have a limited number of days between now and March 6 (the NHL Trade Deadline), you’ve got a pretty good read on what the market looks like.
“I’m told there’s several teams that remain in the mix. The Dallas Stars might push it til the end. They might wait. A number of these teams who are interested in Evander Kane might do the exact same thing, which would stand in the way of Vancouver obviously getting something done this week. But based on the sources I have there, it does feel like there’s enough interest around Kane that it is plausible, if not likely, that something gets done this week.”
Kane, 34, was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers over the summer in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick (David Lewandowski). In his first season in his hometown, Kane has nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points through 56 games with a minus-18 rating and 76 penalty minutes.
The 6’2″ power forward is in the final year of a four-year, $20.5 million contract, which carries a $5.125 million average annual value. Kane will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and would benefit from a move to a contending team to boost his value in free agency.
The Vancouver native is creeping up to 1,000 career NHL games – currently at 986. However, according to Dreger’s recent report, it doesn’t appear that Evander Kane will reach the milestone as a member of the Vancouver Canucks.
