A new fashion drop greeted the Vancouver Canucks’ arrival in Philadelphia.
In 16 NHL seasons, Tyler Myers now sits on the cusp of the 1,000 games played milestone. Dressing against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Houston-born, Calgary-raised defenceman will become the 399th player in NHL history to reach this mark.
To commemorate this occasion, the Canucks have put together a tour-style t-shirt for Myers, featuring a collage of images of him as a Canuck in the front and a list of “tour dates” on the back, displaying the numbers of games played for each of his previous teams’ in their home rink. Interestingly enough, the names have been separated based on the name changes for each building despite the rink being the same.
Myers was drafted 12th overall in the 2008 NHL entry draft by the Buffalo Sabres, where he spent the first 6 years of his career. In 365 NHL contests, he compiled 45 goals and 106 assists for 151 points, winning the Calder Memorial Trophy in the 2009-10 season. Myers was shipped to the Winnipeg Jets as part of the big Evander Kane trade, and the big defenceman would spend the next 5 years in Manitoba. He featured in 270 games, scoring 29 goals and 85 assists for a total of 114 points.
Joining Vancouver as part of the 2019 free agent class, the 2024-25 season marks Myers’ 6th as a Canuck. With this game, he will match the 365 appearances that he made with the Sabres and looks likely to break that mark as the season progresses, making Vancouver his longest tenure as a player. Myers has recorded 19 goals and 87 assists for 106 points with the Canucks thus far. He is currently pointless through four games played.
This isn’t the first time that the Canucks have made t-shirts to commemorate a milestone. Last season, to celebrate Conor Garland’s 400th NHL contest against the Vegas Golden Knights, some players made and prominently featured another t-shirt.
The origins of this shirt came from a suggestion that Garland made to JT Miller to create these for all players as they reach big milestones in their careers. The next three games played milestone watch are Derek Forbort (499), Filip Hronek (394) and Carson Soucy (294).
