Ahead of their first game of the 2026-27 NHL regular season, the Vancouver Canucks have officially named six players as alternate captains.

The team named three captains for home games and three more for away games.

At home, the club’s three captains will be: Filip Hronek, Linus Karlsson, and Drew O’Connor.

When on the road, like tonight, the Canucks’ captains will be: Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson, and Zeev Buium.

Last season, Pettersson, Boeser, and Hronek were the Canucks’ most-common alternate captains. Karlsson wore a letter under new Canucks head coach Manny Malhotra when the two spent time together with the AHL Abbotsford Canucks.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old O’Connor is one of the Canucks’ more experienced players. O’Connor was originally acquired alongside Marcus Pettersson in the deal the Canucks struck with the Pittsburgh Penguins on the same night they traded JT Miller to the New York Rangers back in 2024. Following the trade, the Canucks signed O’Connor to a two-year contract extension worth $2.5 million annually. O’Connor is in the final year of that contract and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2027.

As mentioned, Pettersson, Boeser, and Hronek have all served as alternate captains for the Canucks before.

Boeser and Pettersson are among the longest-tenured players on the Canucks’ roster, and were both drafted by the club. Hronek, meanwhile, was cited plenty last season as a veteran player that young Canucks, particularly young defencemen, looked to for guidance. Hronek took Canucks prospect Adam Novotný for multiple dinners during Canucks training camp, and has taken on a leadership role for the rebuilding Canucks.

The Canucks are in action as we write this, and will host the Oilers for their home opener on Thursday, October 1st.
