The Vancouver Canucks have signed general manager Patrik Allvin to a multi-year contract extension, the club announced Wednesday morning.
Allvin, 49, has served as Canucks general manager since midway through the 2021–22 season, when he was hired by the team to replace Jim Benning.

The Canucks first hired Allvin in January 2022, around a month after the Canucks fired Benning and Travis Green and replaced them with Rutherford and Bruce Boudreau, respectively. Rutherford initially served as interim GM before hiring Allvin, at which point he settled into his full-time role as president of hockey operations.
Rutherford signed a contract extension of his own with the Canucks earlier this month and hinted at that time that a new deal for Allvin was on the horizon. Under Rutherford, Allvin, and new head coach Rick Tocchet, the Canucks have shot out to an NHL-best 33-11-5 record in 49 games to start the 2023–24 regular season; Tocchet is one of six Canucks slated to represent the team at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game.
The Canucks have been one of the NHL&#8217;s most active teams in the trade and free agent markets since Allvin took over as GM. Since the most recent off-season, Allvin has added Teddy Blueger, Sam Lafferty, Pius Suter, Carson Soucy, Nikita Zadorov, Ian Cole, and Casey DeSmith.
Before joining the Canucks, Allvin spent more than a decade in various hockey operations roles with the Pittsburgh Penguins, with whom he worked alongside Rutherford. Allvin won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2009, 2016, and 2017.
