Mynio’s inclusion follows an impressive showing during Canada’s preliminary camp, which featured a two-game exhibition series against USports. Canada swept the series, and Mynio made his mark in Game 1, playing alongside Calgary Flames’ prospect Zayne Parekh (who did not make the final roster).
The 6-foot-1, 181-pound played true to his game and played a steady, physical game, drawing praise for his defensive prowess.
DailyFaceoff’s Steven Ellis noted:
“Mynio isn’t flashy by any means, but he does an excellent job of getting in the way and playing stable, sound defense. His partner, Zayne Parekh, was more of the puck rusher, while Mynio was out there landing hits and separating players from the puck any way possible.”
This marks the first time Mynio will represent Canada in a major international tournament, adding another highlight to his ever-growing resume. Just weeks ago, Mynio was named captain of the Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL) as the backbone of his team’s defensive corps.
The Kamloops, B.C., native has been a key player for Seattle, amassing 114 points (30 goals, 84 assists) in 196 WHL games and 72 points (21 goals, 51 assists) post-draft. In his first two seasons, he played a role in the Thunderbirds advancing to the WHL finals in back-to-back seasons, earning a WHL Championship win in 2022-23 as a sophomore.
Mynio is the first Vancouver Canucks prospect to represent Team Canada at the World Juniors since goaltender Michael DiPietro did so in the 2018-19 tournament.
Team Canada’s final preparation will take place in Petawawa, Ontario, from December 15 to 18. Then, it will move into pre-tournament action. Canada will face Switzerland on December 19, Sweden on December 21, and Czechia on December 23 as it fine-tunes its game for the championship.
The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship officially begins on Boxing Day, with Canada opening against Finland at the Canadian Tire Centre.
Team Canada’s Schedule:
- December 26: vs. Finland @ 4:30 p.m. PT
- December 27: vs. Latvia @ 4:30 p.m. PT
- December 29: vs. Germany @ 4:30 p.m. PT
