The Vancouver Canucks announced on Sunday morning that defenceman Guillaume Brisebois has been placed on NHL waivers for the purpose of assignment to AHL Abbotsford.
Brisebois, 28, has yet to make an appearance in the 2025-26 season after undergoing lower-body surgery in late September, according to Canucks representatives. The details of Brisebois’ injury have not been announced; however, the 6’2″ defenceman appeared in all 24 games of Abbotsford’s Calder Cup run that resulted in the organization’s first Championship.
In the playoffs, Brisebois played a pivotal role on a shutdown defence pair with Jett Woo. Brisebois managed to add two goals and one assist for three points and a minus-six rating enroute to their Calder Cup Championship. In the regular season, Brisebois played 48 games for Abbotsford, scoring two goals and three assists for five points with a plus-three rating, but also earned a three-game stint in the NHL. He was held without a point, but finished with an even rating while averaging 15:48 minutes of ice time per game.
The Canucks drafted the Longueuil, Quebec native in the third round (66th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. Brisebois spent his draft-plus-one and plus-two seasons in the QMJHL with Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Charlottetown Islanders before turning pro in 2017-18. That season, he played the full season with the Utica Comets of the AHL, but was rewarded the following season with his first taste of NHL action in 2018-19.
Since then, Brisebois has split most of his seasons between the NHL and the AHL. Throughout his eight seasons of professional hockey, Brisebois has played 30 NHL games, scoring one goal and two assists for three points with a plus-six rating. In the AHL, he’s appeared in 297 contests, with 16 goals and 49 assists for 65 points. After this transaction, Brisebois will have the opportunity to add to his AHL totals after what was a lengthy recovery process.
